Ya know this whole color-blind casting thing is foolish and grating on my nerves. The fact that an actress can't play any role is foolish also. I mean People say well in this time period there wouldn't be black people doing such things etc. Esp in regards to My Fair Lady and Night music. I got news for ya. In those times musicals didn't exsist. In that time period and in "real life" no one would be talking and then burst out into a 32 bar song. It's called theatrical suspension of disbelief. As a matter of fact, if you look at theatrical history more often than not a person who wasn't "type" did a role. How many middle-aged women play Hedda, who's supposed to be 29. How many fat tenors and sopranos play roles like Romeo and Juliet? For goodness sake, Lawrence Olivier is a world-renowned actor and is thought of as brilliant. Yet this thin, young, white guy is known for doing one of the best Othello's in the world. I think as long as the show doesn't tell the story of race (i.e Ragtime, Dreamgirls), one should cast the best person regardless of color.
