I heard there may be a limited run of an Ilya Darling revival. Who do you think could pull it off as the late sultry Melina Mercouri type for this musical of Never On Sunday?
She'll be busy but Katrina Lenk would be my first choice.
If someone were to engage in this highly unlikely production, I'd personally only be interested if it included the two songs Sondheim contributed that Melina was unwilling to keep in the show because he didn't visit her every night after a performance.
an Ilya Darling revival
Why would they do this? Just...no.

Is this considered for something like Encores or Mufti? A full-scale production seems unlikely...
There's no reason to revive this show. Mercouri was the only reason to see it. She wasn't a great singer or dancer (she sat in a raised chair snapping her fingers while everyone danced around her). At the matinee performance I attended there were a few rows of sailors seated and Mercouri was well aware of them. At one point the 40+ actress appeared in a bikini bathing suit and the sailors cheered wildly with some throwing their hats in the air. She loved every moment and was a one of a kind performer. The score is sub par and the book is a piece of fluff. I don't even think it would be good enough for Encores to produce.

I agree. The only thing good about this show was Melina Mercouri and a few songs. It was really mediocre.

The best candidate to play the character Ilya would be Jennifer Lopez or Gloria Estefan.
It'll play in repertory with the revival of MARY MARY directed by After Eight!
