Posted: 4/21/09 at 12:09pmIf you don't have the right cast to do a show, then don't do it. Couldn't they just do THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, plenty of white girls in that show.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 12:11pmWow, that is awesome. The Engineer is a Soprano too. :)The actors may be great but the photos look like bad "Glamour Shots" or those places at amusement parks where you dress up like saloon girls.

Are you really saying no community theater or high school should be able to South Pacific, The King & I, etc without the original races represented. They don't even do that on broadway. I am going to see another community theater 20 miles from that one do Miss Siagon next month, bet they don't have more than 2 vietnamese in the cast.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 12:46pmMy school did South Pacific with four de Beque children - two asian boys, one white girl, one black girl. Bloody Mary was played Mrs. Meers-style by a white girl. We DID have an Asian Liat.

They don't have to be that specific. But they should at least have actual Asians, if not ethnically Vietnamese.
LOL, ratherbewhaling, was it like this?

at this point... i give up... like i wrote in another post... just freaking cast white people in everything now... they can get away with everything now... but cast lea salonga or norm lewis in les miserables and people get all crazy that minorities are playing white roles!
and for what it's worth... YES... if there are no asians in the area then don't freaking do THE KING AND I... the damn show is about an asian king and his family... so what the hell would you cast a white person for? just to boost your ego?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. There's hundreds of shows white people can play, no need for them to take the couple of minority roles as well. Did they seriously need to put on MISS SAIGON?
Remember the way people went on and on about how an all-black cast wouldn't work for CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF? Or how it's distracting for Audra McDonald to play John Cullum's daughter? Or how Daphne Rubin-Vega was too "ethnic" for Fantine? Well, I'm doing exactly the same thing here.

because clearly the huge ethnic theatre populations in these places are being discriminated against. i think they do it just to make fun of those damn brownies.
