Okay, I'm not a total newbie when it comes to Broadway, so go easy on me. :) I've spent a couple months at a time working in NY, so I hope I know a little more than the average tourist.

Anyway.... My wife and I are going to be in New York Thanksgiving Week (!), Nov 22-28. I know this is a pretty busy week for Broadway and am looking for a couple things:

1) Advice on new shows (musicals or plays) in the last 6 months that you experts would recommend we see. To get a hint of what we like, we are big fans of everything from Passing Strange and Spring Awakening to In the Heights, Legally Blonde and Wicked.

2) I've seen that a TKTS has had a wide variety of tickets the last couple of weeks. Of the shows that you recommend, which ones should we buy tickets for in advance and not even chance catching them on TKTS?

Thanks so much, everyone! I love this message board!

I would see Billy Elliot and White Christmas. You would probably have to buy those tickets in advance, because I'm guessing they won't be on TKTS. Hope you both have a great time in the city!

"Black Watch"

To say that it is playing out of the way is to be subtle. St Ann's Warehouse is in Brooklyn in the neighborhood called Dumbo.

This play from the National Theatre of Scotland is a must-see (for everybody). I don't like to toss around terms like brilliant and a must-see because I think they are over-used on not-entirely-worthy endeavors. Black Watch is a brilliant staging of a very good play. At the end I didn't know whether I was more physically exhausted or emotionally drained.

It is worth full price. Buy tix now because this one sells out.

www.stannswarehouse.org and they have a map.

Thanksgiving time is dicey because kids are out of school and most office types are on a 4 day weekend. Billy Elliot and White Christmas are selling very well. So is South Pacific.

Personally, I would say Equus. It's been on TKTS regularly, but given its gunna be a holiday, you might want to get tickets in advance, but you will probably be able to do TKTS.

Billy Elliot, a must see! Have you seen the reviews? I urge you to act quickly, and expect to pay full price.
Hairspray, last chance and Harvey's back. Good chance at tkts.
Same goes for Forbidden Broadway (except for Harvey). And Gypsy too.
Also, South Pacific is wonderful, and a sell out, no discounts.

Go see any of the previously mentioned fancy shows and then hit "Rock Of Ages" for the late show if you don't want the evening to end! we saw it and dug it alot! it's a big, fun, silly excuse to have a party at the theater. (frankly, all that a jukebox musical should ever really try to aspire to if you ask me!)

13 is dreadful. Don't put yourself through the agony. WishingOnlyWounds2 was hired to promote 13 on this board.

Chief_Happypants was hired to promote ROCK OF AGES.

I highly recommend EQUUS. That show is INCREDIBLE.

actually I wasn't hired by anybody. sorry, thought this was a thread where you give your opinions about shows you've enjoyed and then give your recommendations. My bad. Go see Equus like "Wannabe" says. (oh shoot, my bosses at ROA are gonna be soooooo pissed!!)

Not a Broadway show, but I just saw it, and as much as I love Broadway, and theatre in general, and I dislike concerts, I have to recommend you to go see Sarah Brightman's Symphony World Tour at the Madison Square Garden NOV 23rd in New York City. Excellent! Flawless!
