Well for Zack Efron. Benny is african american... He's not.
Am I the only one who understood that that was a joke?
To be fair, while Jennifer Lopez is no Andrea Burns (who is?), she would probably be quite funny as Daniela.
I can't imagine Ms. High Maintenance herself would submit to a minor role like Daniela, but that's the only role she COULD play (unless she's under the delusion she can still pull off Vanessa, which is a possibility).
People who can't be in this movie because they're too old:
Robin deJesus
Mandy Gonzalez
I love them both, but they just won't work.
I would love Rob Brown as Benny (if he can sing.)
And I actually like Banderas as Kevin- I think it's a great idea.
i think janet dacal can pull off carla on the big screen..she looks young enough...how old can she bee?

Fine! Corbin Bleu it is!
(No, you are not the only one. I'm hoping you and I aren't the only two, or I'm going to get shot down in flames any minute. ;D)
I'm really pleased, I always thought that it would be perfect for a modern day movie musical, very 'now' with its dance/music/storyline and not in the least bit cheesy so it applies to wider demographic than just HSM/Hairspray/Mamma Mia followers.
It would be a mistake however to just have the OBC reprise their roles, it's unnecessary. They are great performers, but movie acting/singing is not the same thing. Movies are all about 'names' selling tickets.
It's the perfect opportunity to get in great Latina/o actor/singers who have previously not had a film 'designed' for their style, inspirations and heritage.
Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, America Ferrera, Eva Mendez, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Salma Hayek, Rosario Dawson, Antonio Banderas, etc etc.
Then of course with Benny, you get the opportunity to divulge into Black hip-hop/rap/R&B singer/actors.
The possibilities are bountiful for a star filled cast.
There is always the opportunity to 'introduce' Lin-Manuel too, a la Dreamgirls (Jennifer Hudson) and Hairspray (Nikki Blonskey).

"You really can't blame OBC for for The Producers' failure. The only 2 in the movie that didn't have a Hollywood career before hand were Gary & Roger."
Roger had already starred in The Insider and the Stepford Wives remake
Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, America Ferrera, Eva Mendez, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Salma Hayken, Rosario Dawson, Antonio Banderas, etc etc.
Does America Ferrera sing? America as Nina was the first imaginary casting I did in my head, months ago.

I also think Ana Ortiz as Daniela is a great idea. She even owns a hair salon in Ugly Betty and I'm sure she can sing decent enough for the movie.
I think Rita Moreno would be a good Camila, she was awesome in Casa de los Babys.

Who should direct?
Rita Moreno is pushing 80, she is too old to play the mother of a teenager (Nine is supposed to be 19 at the most). She is ideal for Abuela Claudia, I'm just not sure she can play a woman from Cuba, since every time I've seen Moreno play a Latina, she injects the role with her fantastic Puerto Rican flair. This is a problem when she has to play Mexican, for example.
America Ferrara would indeed make a great Nina, and she could actually pass for a 19 year old. I'm not sure she can sing though.
Kevin has the dullest song in the show, and it'll inevitably get cut for the film (it'd stop the movie cold), so no to Antonio Banderas playing the role.
How about George Lopez as The Piragua Guy??
< That would be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
I had the same thought, HAHAHA
Watching a lot of GLO gets you thinking. Since he only sings Piragua, which will probably get cut, he doesn't need much of a singing voice. Updated On: 11/7/08 at 09:35 PM
I'd die if that song was cut. . .
I wiped this up real quick.
Wait, that's no JLO ass. Here we go.

ray: I agree with you that ITH would not make a good movie because its plot is pretty weak.
I can see Jennifer Lopez as Daniela. Not sure who would make a good Nina; they need to have serious pipes.
I really hope they cast the In The Heights movie with the OBC. It could be a great movie if done right.
That was such a great picture. Though I want Andrea to have the part.
Lin should reprise Usnavi, and it looks like he will. He'll be producing as well, so he'll have some say in casting, I'd assume.
I like Rosario Dawson for Vanessa, and Jennifer Lopez would be amazing as Daniela. Maybe Aguilera as Carla?
Am I the only one who thinks Rosario is way too old?
Not if Lin is Usnavi.

Could Aguilera look young enough to play Nina? She certainly has the voice for it.
It depends on how they change her appearance. we haven't really seen her without makeup with full eyes brows in clothes college kids wear. she definitely has a face that could look younger.
