I was thinking about this just now.
Which musical am I describing?:
A tight-knit ethnic community in a part of a large country/city that is dominantly their race. A witty, wisecracking narrator, who sells milk, leads us through the story. There is a brassy, nagging woman who knows everything about everyone's love life, and an old person who is the spiritual center of the neighborhood. his community is struggling to hold on in the face of massive changes - businesses are struggling and everyone is moving away. The narrator/main character dreams of what they'd do with lots of money in one number. There are two star-crossed lovers. One is forced to leave the community, but the two pledge to stay together.
