I was thinking about this just now.

Which musical am I describing?:
A tight-knit ethnic community in a part of a large country/city that is dominantly their race. A witty, wisecracking narrator, who sells milk, leads us through the story. There is a brassy, nagging woman who knows everything about everyone's love life, and an old person who is the spiritual center of the neighborhood. his community is struggling to hold on in the face of massive changes - businesses are struggling and everyone is moving away. The narrator/main character dreams of what they'd do with lots of money in one number. There are two star-crossed lovers. One is forced to leave the community, but the two pledge to stay together.

I actually have heard this comparison as far back as when it was in workshops. Someone described it to me as being "the latino Fiddler."

Oh wow. I never noticed that before!

I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&. "Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."

While I don't think that it was intentionally done. Nevertheless that is something that I too have not noticed before.
