I don't think Billy Elliot is overrated. It deserved every award it got, but it didn't win for music. Elton John is by far its weakest link, but it's a phenomenal show. I would say Next to Normal. Horrible, cliche' lyrics that don't rhyme, aren't personalized to the characters and all sound the same.

How does Priscilla have an overrated score? It's a jukebox musical, so the score isn't a point of contention.

Phantom of the Opera was the first that came to mind.

For me personally, Follies is a very overrated score. It's the one Sondheim show that I cannot imagine sitting through due to the music being boring.

The Will Rogers Follies is the only Cy Coleman score I find almost completely devoid of interest--Willamania is catchyas is Favorite Son, but I always find the music just kinda washes over me and I can't remember any of it afterwards--they were lucky they got that Tommy Tune staging.

NINE? NINE is overrated? Will someone please tell me why?

Anyways just like THE PRODUCERS except less funny, THE BOOK OF MORMON to me is overrated. If only because most of the songs were take-offs on songs we've heard before, and if I wanted to hear that, I'd call my brother. And it's just like THE PRODUCERS in the way that everyone keeps saying it is; most of the true comedy and value of the show is in the dialogue.

AVENUE Q: Because I did not need unfunny puppets and racial stereotypes, and if I did, I'd watch Greg The Bunny.

The Will Rodgers Follies has a wonderful score. The only Cy Coleman score that doesn't measure up is The Life.

And Nine is the one Maury Yeston score that works. Overrated would be Titanic.

I could barely sit through NINE once.

But as for FOLLIES, the score is so varied that anyone who says he can't find anything there to like is probably just being contrary for the sake of being contrary.
