It's amazing to me that no one has mentioned "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha:

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love, pure and chaste, from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable stars!

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

"Lost in the Wilderness" from Children of Eden:
"Did you ever watched the eagle fly to the sun
And wondered how he got to be so free
If you ever have you know your journey's begun
Hey what you got to lose boy, when already we are
Lost in the wilderness
And where we are headed boy, I couldn't guess but
Off we go without a warning
Running as we hit the ground
Where our future lies before us
Where our hearts are outward bound
Till one bright and distant morning
We may stop and look around
And there in the wilderness
Finally we'll be found!"

...and all of "Spark of Creation" also from Children of Eden

How about "Home" from The Wiz:

Suddenly my world's gone and changed its face
But I still know where I'm goin'
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet I've watched it growin'
If you're listening God, please don't make it hard to go
If we should believe the things that we see
Tell us should we run away, should we try and stay?
Or is better just to let things be?

Living here in this brand new world might be a fantasy
But it's taught me to love so it's real to me
And I've learned that we must look inside our hearts to find
A world full of love like yours and mine

Godspell & Jesus Christ Superstar inspiring Broadway Lyrics:

"Every bright description of the promised land mentions
You can reach it if you keep alert
Learnin' every line and every last commandment
May not help you but it couldn't hurt"
- Learn Your Lessons

"You've started to believe
The things they say of you
You really do believe
This talk of God is true
And all the good you've done
Will soon get swept away
You've begun to matter more
Than the things you say"

"I've heard it said,
That people come into our lives for a reason,
Bringing something we must learn,
And we are led to those,
Who help us most to grow,
If we let them,
And we help them in return,
But I don't know if I believe that's true,
But I know I'm who I am today, because I knew you..." -For Good

"One Song, glory. One song before I go. Glory, one song to leave behind..." -One Song Glory

It means, No! This isn't over!
No, the date's not set!
No, I won't wake up tomorrow
Drowning in my sweat!
It means I've got the greatest partner
Any man can get!
It means I'll never ever ever
Underestimate that woman,
'Cause this is not over yet!

Call me crazy (I probably deserve it) but one that hasn;t been mentioned that always gets me is the reprise to Good morning Baltimore from Hairspray.

"And get ready, Baltimore
There's a bright, brand-new
Day in store
Let me out so this dream's
Unfurled
I'll eat some breakfast,
Then change the world"

This section always gives me shivers.

Woohoo, on my college dorm I had these kind of quotes all over my room...

"Life isn't worth a damn till you can shout out hey world I Am What I Am"-La Cage
"Everything in Life is only for Now"-Avenue Q
"Tomorrow Belongs To Me"-Cabaret
"No Day But Today"-Rent
"Measure Your Life In Love"-Rent
"The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow"-Annie

Meh, don't have the quotes, forgot a lot! I'll think more...

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

"You'll Never Walk Alone" from CAROUSEL

One of my favorite lyrics is definitely:

"Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries" from FOSSE (though it may not originally be a show tune...)

DEEP IN THE DARKEST NIGHT from DRACULA

Now that we've found where the enemy's lurking
Nothing can stand in our way.
Since we are facing the forces of darkness
We must be the cold light of day.

We are the embers that burn in the winter,
The diamonds in the mine.
Let's pick our torches and pray God
Will show us a sign.

Deep in the darkest night,
When there's no spark of hope,
We must be points of light
Piercing the darkness.

Bright as the dazzling stars
In an indifferent sky.
And in our gruelest hour
When hope is gone,
We'll raise our heads
And journey on!

When the great battle commences,
Surely the light will prevail.
We will break down their defenses.
They will fall and the sun will rise.

Deep in the darkest night,
When there's no spark of hope,
We must be points of light
Piercing the darkness.

Bright as the dazzling stars
In an indifferent sky.
And in our gruelest hour
When hope is gone,
We'll raise our heads
And we'll journey on!

My first instinct was also "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel.

"Climb Every Mountain" from Sound of Music

"Somewhere" from West Side Story

"Our Time" from Merrily We Roll Along (as long as it's taken out of context).

"Bring Me To Light" or "LET IT SING" from Violet

"If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten. And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing. When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly chumps. Just push your lips and whistle that's the thing."- Always look on the Bright Side of Life(SpamAlot)

"You've got to follow that dream, wherever that dream may lead. You've got to follow that dream to find the love you need."- Follow that Dream(All Shook Up)

"If you trust in you soul, keep your eyes on the goal. Then the prize you won't fail, that's your grail, that's your grail."-Find your grail(SpamAlot).

Right on Jasonf, It think the ultimate grad song would be "Our Time," even in context, i mean just b/c there lives dont go as planned and some might say get really messed up doesnt change the powerful message of the song, its about this profound hope.

"Something is stirring, shifting ground/
Its just begun/
Edges are blurring all around/
And yesterday is done/
Its Our Time breathe it in/
Worlds to change and worlds to win/
Our Time, me and you, pal, me and you..."

My favorite is from Finale B from RENT:

I can't control my destiny, I trust my soul. My only goal is just to be. There's only now, there's only here. Give into love or live in fear. No other path, no other way, no day but today.

Also, the theme of 'Defy Gravity' from Wicked I find inspiring on days when I just want to blend in.

I've always liked this lyric:

"stop worrying if your vision is new
let others make that decision
they usually do
you keep moving on"--"Move On" from SITPWG

Actually, a lot of the lyrics from SITPWG are inspiring.

'I Believe' from Altar Boyz -
One beam of light, is enough to see where you're going
One wrong turn, is enough to loose your way
One choice, is all you have to make
One ounce of faith could save the day
I believe, that I came to know you for a reason
I believe, that the things that you say will come true
I believe that with you in my life I'll make it
I believe in you

One Mistake, doesn't have to mean that it's over

One bad day, only means there's work to do

One night, is sometimes all it takes

To realize one thing is true
I believe, that I came to know you for a reason
I believe, that the things that you say will come true
I believe that with you in my life I'll make it
I believe in you

Take a picture of me now, take a look at who I am
Yesterday I wasn't half as strong

Take a picture of us all, what we've been and what we are
Look at that, and tell me I'm wrong

I BELIEVE!

That I came to know you for a reason

I believe, that the things that you say will come true

I believe that with you in my life I'll make it
I believe in you
I believe in

You
I believe in
You

And Seasons of Love from RENT - You probably have those lyrics, though. Or at least know the jist of them.
