Catherine Rampell has a piece in the "Economix" blog about the economics of theater reviews, discussing the reasons for the embargoes on publishing reviews prior to opening nights. She inteviews Roger Berlind and Emanuel Azenberg and gets some interesting comments from them.

Interesting article, though I like to pretend that some people pay attention to bloggers. I've also wondered why the smaller shows open so late, sometimes a week before closing. It's really got to help more often than hurt to get the reviews out earlier.

Yeah, I'm with PJ. There was nothing of note or interest in that entire piece.

Well, to look at in perspective, if a small off off Broadway show only has a one week run after opening odds are there aren't very many previews either for the reviewers to attend, or the show is so small and insignificant that the publishers aren't going to give them the space to begin with.
And I'm also going to agree with PJ. There was absolutely nothing new said there.

True, but there are bloggers and smaller news outlets that could review the shows.

Bloggers aren't embargoed, though, are they?
And in an article about embargoes and breaking embargoes, I can't believe Spider-Man wasn't mentioned. Although it was a very unusual case, reviews did break the embargo for that.
