Into the Woods
re: Into the Woods#25
Posted: 7/4/04 at 6:04amI liked the original cast of Into the Woods. But has anyone heard the London cast recording? Although I think Bernadette Peters was great in the role, I actually really liked the witch on the London version even more.

I MOST DEFINITELY prefer the original cast to the new. I'll admit, I didn't see the new cast, but judging on video clips and the 2002 recording, I don't think they come anywhere near the original. Molly Ephraim can't hold a candle to Molly Ephraim, in my opinion, and Kerry O' Malley, it seems to me, isn't something special. I also dislike Jack and Jack's mother from the revival. Jack's Mother seems dead to me, and Jack's voice has too quick and agitating of a vibrato.
Overall, I think that the original cast had this amazing chemistry that didn't seem to be there in the revival.

skingdom-
Couldn't agree with you more. Although, I loved Williams in the role just as I loved Peters.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 12:30pmi've only seen the show on video but i loved it. I haven't heard much of anything from the revival cast so i can't really compare the two. all i know is that i love bernadette and joanne!! :)

BillyLawlor - I completely agree. Molly V. Ephraim cannot hold a candle to herself.
As for the revival, I loved it. The magic wasn't captured well on the recording. I did not think so, at least. I loved seeing it onstage. The costumes and sets were breathtaking to say the least.
Laura Benanti. Oh my freaking Lord! Can we just say that she has the most amazing voice ever? She is great in this as well as Nine. I wish she would be cast in more shows.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 1:43pmBenanti has a wonderful voice, but she is cold and icy on stage. There is no warmth to her at all.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 1:57pmI couldn't disagree with you more...Benanti can be very warm onstage when the role calls for it, i.e.-Maria in Sound of Music, some of her numbers in Swing-Skylark for instance could not have been warmer. I've never thought of her as icy in the slightest way, except maybe in Nine, where the character calls for it.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 1:58pmDon't get me started on Benanti's voice. God, it's beautiful! I never saw her in SOUND OF MUSIC but adored her in WOODS & NINE.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 2:01pmQuibbler-you don't know her offstage, and the reason I know this is because anyone that DOES know her offstage would never say anything like that. How about we post about things we know or about things that are relevant? Pick one.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 2:02pmMy off stage experiences with her have all been wonderful. She really is a lovely person.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 2:02pmSorry, I was just speaking about some stage door experience. She came off as icy to me, I'm sure she's a really nice person when you get to know her. It doesn't change my opinion of her as a performer. Updated On: 7/4/04 at 02:02 PM

re: Into the Woods#42
Posted: 7/4/04 at 2:05pmTo be honest, she is painfully shy and can't really comprehend when people want to talk to her and ask for autographs and such. It's just not her style. She's very gracious and all, but the stage door activities just kind of freak her out a little bit-which explains why she comes off as cold-she just wants to get in her car and go home after a show.

Posted: 7/4/04 at 2:06pmI don't blame her for that. MANY actors feel that way.

Well, I understand that. Can't blame her for it.
There, I took it away because I feel bad about it now.

There is something I love about icy females with killer voices. I'm not sure what it is.
As for her offstage personality, I was surprised that she didn't have a British accent or something. She appears so regal onstage. I didn't expect her to sound so...American!

Posted: 7/4/04 at 6:10pmNo, J. Namo would never come here and say something as disgusting as the things you said last night.
