With the film being the biggest broadway film opening to date, does anyone see a broadway revival in the near future? Does Disney now own the Into the Woods rights?
There's currently a revival off-Broadway being done by the Roundabout.

THERE'S ALREADY A THREAD ABOUT THIS & EMILY BLUNT SAYS YES
It'd be great if we got a full fledged Broadway revival, and I am also wondering what role Disney plays in all this. It sounds like the Roundabout production is designed for a small theatre (not like this has stopped other shows from transferring).

As wonderfulwizard says, there is literally one playing now. Right now.

Into the Woods has had two major NYC revivals in the last two years. I don't think we'll be seeing a Broadway revival in the near future.
I have no doubt that if a BROADWAY revival were to happen, Disney will produce it. They certainly won't put money in the tiny Fiasco production.

I HATE scaled down shows.. it may be more "artistic" but it just makes it "more boring".
The scaled-down shows hate you, too.

Jose, thanks for the heads up. They'll shut the production down now since you hate it so much.
I love scaled-down productions of Sondheim shows, but I'm not crazy about the cast of the fiasco production.
It could transfer to broadway with maybe a new cast which i don't see happening.

The current Fiasco production of Into The Woods is about as far from the film and other productions as you can get. I saw this at McCarter 18 months ago and at interval thought, "The play's the thing". With this production certain parts of the show that had been overwhelmed by Scenery-Light-Costumes-Effects became clearer. The show is distilled into a genuine fairy tale.
As much as as I liked the original production and like the film, (the Bway revival circa 2002 not so much) this stripped down Into The Woods stands on its own quite well, and I have been telling my friends who have relished the film to now go see this production.
Even with some actors doubling as musicians which is a device I often think gets in the way of a play, the show works.
Totally worth time, money and effort to see.
I really like the way you described that production, WOSQ. I would definitely see it if only the reviews for the cast weren't so mixed. In a show like that, minimalist or not, the skill of the cast is even more important than usual...
