Well, IN THE HEIGHTS was indeed filmed over a handful of times with various casts (including the original cast) just not officially.

Yes, it is indeed available at the Lincoln Center library for viewing. You can search the NYPL catalog to find which shows are available. Here is the page for In the Heights:

This is more of a general question about the archival films, but how is the quality of the filmed productions?

I've only seen 3 of them, and they've all been filmed in the last 20 years. I would imagine that the older ones are lower quality. The ones I've seen have all been pretty good. They resemble the professionally filmed shows that are released on DVD sometimes. Multiple cameras, a variety of shots ranging from views of the whole stage to moderately close-up shots.

Great to hear. Yeah, I would assume if they're being preserved that the filming team would be sure to have great quality. Thanks for the information!

I work at the library, and just wanted to add a couple of comments. First, In the Heights was taped by TOFT (i.e. the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive) twice: first, Off-B'way in 2007 at the 37 Arts Theatre, and then in 2008 at the Richard Rodgers. Be sure to specify which version you need to see.
Also, where general video quality is concerned: as noted above, the TOFT tapings have improved over the years. But the archive does, under certain circumstances, accept donated tapes. Sometimes, the quality is mediocre or downright poor, or incomplete. The catalog record usually indicates this.

Thanks for the information...super helpful! Also, I'm jealous you work there and get to watch shows anytime you want! What was your favorite one you've seen?

I don't get to see TOFT tapes whenever I want -- if only! But I've seen a few. One of the most memorable was a videotaped interview, Doris Eaton Travis. She was the last of the Ziegfeld girls, 101 years old when she sat for the taping, but amazingly sharp. She spoke of people she knew, people like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, etc. An amazing lady.
