skittles, for some odd reason, from you, I take that as a complement. I hope it meant as such.

I think the other thing that Julia's fans know is that her voice is different. There are a lot of people that don't like her voice. I think you either love it or you hate it. But I think people know that and they're not going to put someone down for having that opinion when her voice is so different.
ETA: And I'm a little different from Broadwaygirl in that I haven't seen the craziness of the fans and I have seen fans being mostly respectful of posters that don't like her.
"Maybe it's just a case of noticing things about a fanbase you belong to as opposed to general indifference."
I suppose that's part of it. I guess it's partially the fact that I've been a fan of hers long before I started posting here and she gained all those fans from Lennon and Wicked. So I guess it seems to me that there's a sudden growth in the fanbase, and a handful of the newer fans (perhaps because of the nature of the shows people discovered her in) are definitely more...intense.

I sometimes wonder if the Wicked fans would be obsessed with anyone that has played Elphaba. It seems they definitely attract a bigger fan base that way. It is great publicity for them. I too have been a fan of hers for a few years (since I first heard The Wild Party) and am glad she is getting more popular.

You probably have a lot more perspective on Julia's fanbase considering you've been a fan for so long, BG. If she truly is acquiring somewhat of an overzealous fanbase, I'm sorry to hear that -- no one deserves that! She seems like someone who knows how to handle fans like that a little better than most, though.
I think playing Elphaba is almost a sure ticket to a good-sized fanbase, definitely, even if the fans aren't what most would probably consider "ideal" fans.
soapguy, I believe Skittles comment had to do with the fact that you spelt witness wrong.
Now to throw in my two cents about Julia. I absolutely love her, I'm a new fan to her, I heard her first when listening to The Wild Party for Idina and was blown away. I have yet to see Wicked, and so can only go on the OCR and random audios floating around, but when I saw the new tour promo video I was completely blown away, it was a feeling I've never felt before. The way she belts, it's no wonder she needs a rest for her vocals.
I know, but, spelling witness wrong doesn’t make me an idiot, it makes me ignorant, there's a HUGE difference.
However, I don't think some fans are demonstrating intelligence nor are they respecting other's opinions when they routinely gang up to shut down other people's because they can't handle constructive criticism about one of their favorites.
Constructive criticism? This entire thread was started to bash Julia Murney- not on the basis of her vocal skills or acting- but because she had the *nerve* to miss shows due to doctor's orders. You get what you give, and when you start off with petty hostility, you shouldn't expect much more in return.

You also spelled "idiot" wrong in the original post.
I didn't know that. And now I'm too lazy to change it.

I really don't call b*tching about her attendance record "constructive."

There's the knee jerking again. Read my original post again where I made it explicitly clear that she was getting a bad rap in THIS thread and wished her a speedy recovery. But, you know, when you some people's instinct is to defend, defend, defend, reading comprehension takes a backseat.
The one thing I do agree is people claiming to be Julia's best friend. I admit, I have gotten caught up in my excitement and have made my relationship with Julia seem much more than it is. At the end of the day, she's my role model who I got to speak with a few times. And I know that. But it does get annoying when people are like, "Me and Julia are friends!" She is the nicest person and will talk to people like friends, but come on! Unless you feel comftorable enough to call her up to say hello, I don't that's friendship. It's a relationship, but not friendship.
Ha. Well, that's a bummer. *sarcasm.* I really don't like Julia. Victoria Matlock is amazing, so...let the girl sing!
