She was all-around brilliant and talented, it was not until I saw one of Her older performances that I realised what We had.
Thanks for posting those clips.

Posted: 2/22/08 at 8:52amShe was a talent that never really got her chance at stardom. She was a brilliant comic and just as effective in the dramatic moments. I don't know what her career ambitions were, but I always thought she would have done well on a sitcom.

Didn't she have a failed sitcom called "Dorothy"?
Side note...wonder if this is where Doyle got his staging for "Being Alive"

Posted: 2/22/08 at 9:52amI was present at the concert in which Louden performed "Losing My Mind". I was the guest of the late Jerry Hadey, who also performed in the concert. At the reception which followed the event, Miss Louden was extremely drunk and according to Hadley, she was drunk when she performed the number.

I remember seeing this on PBS many years ago when I was in college and being completely awed by Dorothy--to be able to perform Sondheim both in and out of context is a rare talent.
I also loved Madeline's "Getting Married Today," esp. her intonation on "I'm not well"
If you like this--look at her rendition of "Vodka" on the same site

Posted: 2/22/08 at 10:35amDorothy was brilliant in everything she did. But she did always appear a bit "tipsy", which was part of the appeal. Something just so loose, comfortable and whimsical about her. Saw her in Annie, Ballroom, Jerry's Girls and lots of benefits. Regret not seeing her and Hepburn in West Side Waltz. I did see her on the cross-town bus one day, and she definately had hit the bottle. But what a talent ... she could give you a belly laugh or break your heart.

Posted: 2/22/08 at 10:44amIt's too bad she didn't get a crack at Joanne in Company. I think that would have been an interesting role for her.

I wonder what became of the life-size brass bust of her as Miss Hannigan that used to be in the lower level basement/lobby/rest area at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre) during the original Broadway run of ANNIE?

Wow, that woman was a true talent. I couldn't stop laughing the whole second half of that clip. If you want to see a Losing My Mind with a beat check out this version with Liza:

She stole this from the Pet Shop Boys. Or they stole it from her. I don't remember which.

Liza's "Losing My Mind" cover was from her 1989 RESULTS album which The Pet Shot Boys produced -- hence that 'Pet Shop Boys' sound. She also covered a couple of their songs on this recording.
