There are productions of NEXT TO NORMAL *everywhere*. It's almost too much.
What other shows recently have had such a strong regional life shortly after closing on Broadway?

This statement doesn't make any sense to me. These are local/regional productions, presumably all with different audiences. They are not competing with each other, but each bringing the show to a different group of theatregoers. How is that "almost too much"? It's not as if a revival of the show were opening within a year or two of closing in the same location, though I for one wouldn't even object to that in this particular case.

I think what's most impressive about NEXT TO NORMAL's post-Broadway life is the calibre of performers that have been getting involved in the show. So many of these licensed productions have been getting Broadway people in - Andrea Burns recently, Kendra Kessebaum and Joe Cassidy in the most recent one BWW has highlighted. It's also been embraced internationally in a way I wasn't expecting.
All of that, and we still don't have the show in the UK

I love the show and I'm thrilled that it is finding such success after Broadway, but I agree that it's almost over-kill! We've already had three local productions within a 50 mile radius this year, some who shared costumes and cast members. Not to mention the other dozen or so within a few hours drive. I really enjoy the show, but I think I could do without another local production for a while. Just my two cents.
