SMASH To Close June 22, 2025

I feel like a lot of community theatre audiences will be brought in by the title and local accessibility, but a good amount of people are likely going to have never seen the source material. I didn’t watch the original series and thought the show was completely enjoyable, just not quite right for Broadway.

On the other hand, I watched Nicole Scherzinger hump the stage and have roses and awards thrown at her feet over it so I must be out of my mind lol.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/31/26

Was the idea behind Celebrity Autobiography to go after the All Out/All In crowd? My first time hearing about it was when I saw the marquee going up at the Shubert a week before opening - shocked to see those numbers and wonder what people were (or weren’t) thinking.

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

Um… is all of that black in the center section the smoke damage? Maybe it came down to closing the show or keeping it open, but I’m surprised they re-opened the theatre still looking so visibly damaged.

Joe Turner's Adding Phone Stickers?

gibsons2 said: "You mean like every inebriated tourist behaves at shows like Mamma Mia and Rocky Horror or Just in Time when Groff performed? Singling out Joe Turner and MJ is a very weird choice when none of these have even remotely the worst audiences."

Sounds like YOU have never had an experience at either of these shows.

Stop trying to turn this into something.

Caps in theaters

Haven’t noticed ball caps, but haven’t been looking. Like many here, I don’t care what anyone wears to the theatre enough to really notice. Don’t block the view of others (with hair, hat, etc.), keep your phone dark and quiet, and be quiet/respectfully engage when appropriate.

Enjoy yourself, and be mindful how you impact others. I had to break my anxiety over using my phone in the theatre when adjusting my father-in-law’s hearing aids re

Beaches reviews

Going into this knowing it was supposedly bad made me not hate this, I think. The show itself is bad and the cast did everything they could with the material, but it was a treat for my ADHD-riddled mind the way the book jumped back and forth.

I’m still trying to figure out how everyone at the airline counter knew her song, though. She didn’t seem very famous at that point in the plot.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW reviews

A lot of great performances in this production, with my surprise around how much Evans and Grey would knock it out of the park. Durand and Hsu were absolutely excellent, as well. I adore Michaela Jae, and loved some of the unnerving physicalities and movements she brought to the role, but can understand where people didn’t care for some of the vocal nuances. I would have preferred to see her as Magenta/Usherette, honestly, and bring some great energy to that role!

I commend Julie

CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Just got out of the show after having seen it twice downtown and really enjoyed myself. It still holds up just as well as it did then, although the crowd on a Tuesday was surprisingly lively, but felt reserved. The lack of intimacy at a venue like the Broadhurst was always bound to be a challenge, though.

Judges tonight were Eva and Reeve. There were a few Hadestown Easter eggs in the dialogue throughout the show that had those in on it chuckling along.

TITANÍQUE Reviews

Stephanie J. Block created Elphaba and didn’t receive nominations for her work in the creative process. Sherie Rene Scott was the original Diana in Next to Normal (Feeling Electric). Is it safe to say that she had no creative input in the refinement of the character or tweaking of the book? If she did, should she have also been nominated for the creative categories?

Not sure where one would draw the line with honoring actors in previous productions and works

The Adding Machine

I don’t know what to make of this - I actually quite liked it, but I wasn’t sure if I was watching the same show as the rest of the audience was. I thought this was a rather darkly humorous piece with plenty of absurdity to laugh at. The audience seemed very somber, and I attribute that to Sunday night as well as a missed/botched opportunity on the director’s part who perhaps set the tone a bit too dark from Creighton’s introduction.

DEATH OF A SALESMAN 2026 Reviews

I saw this play last night - my first time experiencing Desth of a Salesman at all. WOWZA! The piece seems to certainly hold up (although it’s not my favorite play), but the production and this cast were truly exceptional all around.

Laurie Metcalfe: what a privilege to get an opportunity to see her live for my first time. I hope everyone gets a chance to watch her perform live someday.

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

I don’t get why touring productions setup shop for six weeks in NYC (and extend, oftentimes) but somehow the idea that a touring set could be stored somewhere could be pulled out and put at the Majestic once Beaches closes is out of the question. Wigs and costuming will need to be redone, possibly, but what else prevents an established show like this from getting back on its feet within a few months? Kinda seems like if there’s a will, there will be a way.

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

Did anyone happen to snag the photo or a screen capture of it? I wouldn't mind taking a look.

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

I hope she is well and gets the rest she needs. I also think people are quick to dismiss the negative impacts someone making a bad or ill-planned decision can have on others. Both things can be true. I hope she’s well, but she’s also screwing a lot of people over.

SCHMIGADOON! Reviews

hayden6 said: "The Apple TV+ show is fantastic with a phenomenal cast, but I'm rewatching it now after seeing the Broadway show last week and it's amazing to me how much better the songs and jokes land on stage."

I wonder how much of this comes down to having somewhere for the jokes to land with audience feedback. I love watching the live tv productions of musicals, but even the better ones like Hairspray have places they fall flat without the audience feedba

Why no Nick Jonas L5Y album... JRB answers...

Adrienne is a world-class talent and did a wonderful job in L5Y, but she was also not right for the role. In my opinion, the only actress to give the original a run for their money so far has been Rachel. I’m very grateful that we’re getting a Rachel/Ben cast recording.

Pink to Host the 2026 Tony Awards

Very excited for this! Not a traditional Broadway name by any means, but she’s lately positioned herself adjacent to Broadway and I could see her either being in or writing a show in the near future.

I also love the idea of the Tony’s switching over to YouTube. Network TV isn’t as accessible anymore.

Ben Platt & Rachel Zegler - THE LAST FIVE YEARS (NYC/LA)

I’ve sorted my thoughts more, but don’t have much to add.

Last Five Years is a love letter of sorts to its followers, but doesn’t seem to have much appeal to a broader audience for commercial success. This felt like the way it should be seen: an almost Mandy/Patti-esque duo having a great time with the maestro himself leading the way. A love letter to the theatre kid in me who belted out Still Hurting with gusto from the back of his friend’s VW

Ben Platt & Rachel Zegler - THE LAST FIVE YEARS (NYC/LA)

Just got back home from this - WOW! Will write more on this tomorrow, but this was a truly exceptional evening of theatre. After having seen the less than spectacular Broadway debut of this show about a year ago, I had no idea what to expect seeing such a tiny show in a massive venue. What I encountered was 14,000 other kindred theatre folk indulging in a shared moment only we understood. Seeing JRB playing that beautiful score on the piano easily turned him into the third featured performer

TITANÍQUE Previews

I’m very hopeful for this show. I wanted to see it at Asylum but the week of shows was cancelled due to COVID while I was in town. Made my way down to the Darryl Roth about four times to see it (with various friends), happened to be in Sydney for its Australian premiere, and also saw it in the West End. It molds very well to various spaces, although I do think the St. James is an ambitious endeavor. The least conducive to the show was the large club/bar space it played in Sydney, but th
