Well, between Amour and In My Life, Primo was a successful limited egagement, Dame Edna recouped, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof turned a nice profit.

It was home to many classics back in the day. I guess no show has been able to match its old reputation.

Well, In My Life...was...well, enough said. And Festen got horrible reviews, so I don't think anyone expected it to run much longer. I don't really think the theater has anything to do with a show, I think it's more of what's put in the theater. Although, I think the Cort is sort of out on it's own.

The Music Box is owned 50/50 by the Shubert Organization and the Estate of Irving Berlin.

The Shuberts only have half the rental income from this theatre to look forward to so they are not as vested in seeing a success go into the house. If a show does run and make a profit, fine (Blood Brothers for instance), but the safer shows get booked elsewhere.

Whether this is true or an 'Urban Legend', it has been repeated enough over the last 25 years or so that it is widely believed.

I would think the Cort is a more unlucky theatre...shows seem to come and go there without anyone even noticing.

Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

Does anyone notice that the Cort actually exists? It's so....out of the scope.
