Posted: 6/25/05 at 3:04pm...All the ethics aside, I simply cannot afford nice outfits when I am going to the theatre pretty much every night. So...I am trying to be "presentable" and respectful to the actors/performers. I would rather spend my limited funds for the tickets to outfits. Only if I am a rich man...

Frankly, no one cares what you wear to theatre.
People didn't buy tickets to see what the audience is wearing.

I wear jeans and a shirt.
I don't care.
You don't have to dress up anymore.
Like baseball games - people used to wear a jacket to such events. Now look - people sometimes wear nothing.

I agree with whoever said that it depends on what show, etc...
For Brooklyn and Q, I wore short skirts and cute tops, but for Wicked and DRS, long skirts and dressy tops.

And I wore my (gorgeous) Piazza tshirt when I saw Wicked on Thursday. In fact, no matter what your mother thinks, it didn't even occur to me that it would be considered wrong. Wear it!

i would never wear a t-shirt of any kind to the theatre.
i really like the outfit that SKATING KEN is wearing in MOON's avatar. the black pants and tourquoise shirt is divine. (i'd probably leave the medal at home though. i don't like to be too ostentatious in public.)

Posted: 6/26/05 at 6:19pmWell, here in Greece I wear something trendy and casual when going to the theater ! But when visiting NYC I am all day in the streets and then off to the theater, without returning to change. So I usually wear jeans and either a polo shirt or whatever I wear when living home in the morning, depending on the weather ! But definetely not shorts/flip flops etc.

a note on flip flops; men, please do a simple pedicure: wash, clip and a little filing. We foot lovers, thank you.

Posted: 6/26/05 at 7:00pmScrew dressing up. When I am paying $100 dollars for a show (that frankly isn't really worth that much but what are you gonna do if you don't wanna sit in the trashy seats at the back? I will wear what the hell I want. The performers couldn't care less (as for 'respect' do you dress up to go to the post office, dentist or pharmacy?) and the audience (who in most of the shows are trashy, glitter top wearing B+T people) can bite me if they don't like what i am wearing. At least my clothes aren't from outlet stores. Seriously, in Hairspray on Friday, I was overwhelmed by the cheap perfume, cheap diamente and general crassness of the 40 or so Long Islanders I had the misfortune of being seated amongst.
