Is the Freaky Friday DCOM going to be a musical?

I know the articles are saying it's an adaptation of the Disney stage show, and Heidi Blickenstaff is reprising her stage role, but three trailers/clips have come out and not a single one has contained music in it. Either Disney does not want people to know this is a musical, or they have potentially cut a lot of the music from the show.

It will be a musical, though I imagine with much fewer songs than the stage version. But it's clear that, initially at least, they want to sell it on the title and concept and not that it's a musical.

One of the trailers for the Disney movie FINALLY showed some choreography.  But it's been strange to me that it seems like they are avoiding selling this as a musical; especially after the successes of High School Musical and the like.  I saw the stage musical twice at Signature and though it was really fun.  I hope they haven't ruined what I saw by twisting around this made-for-tv movie.

Totally NOT what the OP was asking.   DCOM = Disney Channel Original Movies (I had no idea).   They are making a Freaky Friday movie for the Disney Channel and the op was simply asking if THAT was the musical version or a non-musical.   He thought it was unclear from the trailers.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I had no idea either, so perhaps it's time for posters to stop using initials for everything - just type it out so everyone knows what is being talked about. JSWTIA!

Glad I celled own and saw what DCOM is as I didn't plan on looking it up. If you are going to abbreviate a word in the subject why not just spell it out in the comments?

maybe I'm only surprised so few people knew it because I'm younger (20) and grew up with them, but DCOM is an accepted acronym, not one randomly-made-up by the OP - pronounced like "D-com" - so it is a fair acronym to use, and familiar to many people. totally valid to not know it, but not something worth criticizing the OP for when a google search is easy. regarding the original post, the trailer is definitely weird in basically leaving out that it's a musical and I don't understand why they wouldn't promote that...hoping they didn't cut too much out

You would think that Disney Channel would want to promote that this is a musical and based on the stage adaption. All the reception from the trailer seems to be "why does this need to be remade" because people just assume its a tired reiteration of the three previous Disney film adaptions.

Plus, the DCOM musicals are usually the more successful ones.

springwillcome, it's not the first result of a google search (but it is high up), for what it's worth. And I imagine if you didn't grow up with the Disney Channel, nor have kids who watch it, it wouldn't come naturally. It's not like saying POTO or DEH on this board and knowing 90% of the people here will get it.

DCOM is what the Disney Channel has called their original movies for many, many years.

I hear MTI will be licensing versions of the musical closer to the new movie and not what has previously played onstage. The licensing for the show will also be released when the movie drops.
