Is the Wedding Singer worth seeing before it closes?

Is the Wedding Singer worth seeing before it closes? I am a theater addict. I am easily pleased , but I live in Boston and I drive 4 hours just to see a Broadway Show. I have driven before to see "GREY GARDENS" and Doyle's "COMPANY" and I really enjoyed it.I will be driving this weekend to see "SPRING AWAKENING " and "A LITTLE DOG LAUGHED" ( I am sure I would LIKE IT ).. I was thinking of driving back again on 12/29 weekeend..to catch "Wedding Singer" bec. I have not seen it . Is it worth the trip?? I have the OBC Recording.. I like 3-4 songs, but not really impressed with the whole recording as a whole.. I guess I must say .. I like the songs from HIGH FIDELITY vs WEDDING SINGER, but i guess I have not seen it perform live, so I cannot make the right assumptions..Were all The Original Cast still playing? Is Steven Lynch? L. Bennanti? A. Spangler & Kevin Cahoon still there? Is staging good? musical numbers good? (Actually I must admit I have seen HIGH FIDELITY 2X here in Boston try-out and I kinda like it.. but I was aware that there problems with the musical.. Im a sad to hear
it closed.. Is The Wedding Singer another HIGH FIDELITY ... Pls advise?? Thanks- Jay

If you're looking for a deep, thought-provoking theatrical experience, then absolutely not. If you want a fun night at the theatre, then absolutely do go see it.

You say that you are easily pleased... you will definitley walk out of there with a smile. Its a feel-good show and its very fun. You may even walk out liking more of the music, you never know. There is some fun choreography and other things you don't experience on the cast recording. I will tell you to go for Stephen Lynch's hillarious performance, and personally I love Kevin Cahoon too! Everyone else is great - but those two make the show so much fun... I say go... but that may be because I love it.

"Is the Wedding Singer worth seeing before it closes?"
Yes it is. I think it is a fabulous musical and it should not close. It is a great show and I will have it be brought back on Broadway or brought in London to play Holly or be in the chorus. The dancing is great.. i'm a dancer... so that's why i put it first. I also dance and sing. They are amazing. I'm 14, but I know a lot about musicals. I've never been to new york, but I do have a copy of The Wedding Singer Original Cast that I bought from someone and it is great! Believe me.. you should deff. see it!

This show is a lot of fun. It is far from the best musical on broadway but is as enjoyable Hairspray or any juke box musical out there. I thought I would hate it going in and actually had a great time. Enjoy the show

It is woth seeing.
As stated above, it is not thought provoking, but is a blast from the 80's past and a bunch of non-sensical fun.
Lynch is great. Kevin Cahoon is also a hoot. I really enjoyed this when I saw it this past summer. I'm sure you will too.

Maybe you'll catch the girl with golden hair one last time. You should be so lucky.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

HECK YES!! go see it, definitely re: Is the Wedding Singer worth seeing before it closes?

seriously, the show itself is just a drug.

but um:
Stephen Lynch
Amy Spanger
Felicia Finley
Laura Benanti
Kevin Cahoon

all on one stage. It is INSANE. They are all just incredible. And I honestly believe that Stephen Lynch is one of the funniest, most adorable people on the planet :P (well, okay, I'll admit I'm biased- I've felt that way since LONG before wedding singer ever came along lol. Since I was about 11 or 12 I think... I know, thats very very young for lynch comedy, but my mom LET me watch it! *g*)

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

"& the score is a winner"

OMG things like this make me want to cry. the score is so far from a winner. It's its like the composer decide to do Paint-By-Numbers while writing it. It's beoynd forgetable, it's almost nonexistant.

Jeez Liverpool, as if your first post wasn't bad enough.
Now you go ahead and critisize others about how they feel?

re: Is the Wedding Singer worth seeing before it closes?

IMHO, the only flaw is in the book. It's a VERY fun show that I enjoyed very much. It's not any theatre that's going to change the world - but it's a fun fun fun show that it DEFINITELY worth driving four hours to see.

It has had a nice run on Broadway and I can't understand why it is closing (I would think it would be a hit with tourists). I'll miss it. But indeed - it's about time to go.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
