YES! Stephen Lynch and Kevin Cahoun are sooo worth it!
saw it for the first time last weekend ... it's definetly worth seeing once. I guess the ONLY stipulation i'd give to that comment is how often do you come? If its a matter that you only can see 4 shows a year ... then no. But its fun.
THE WEDDING SINGER is one of a few shows that was a painful experience to endure. If you want to hear toilet humor and gratuitous cursing set to music, you're better off renting the SOUTH PARK movie. At least the humor there is smart and with somewhat of a purpose. This show was an agonizing experience from beginning to end. Just AWFUL. Why anyone would spend the money on even a RUSH ticket, let alone the cost of traveling in from out of town to see this embarassment to the Broadway stage when they can just as easily hop on the living room couch and turn on whatever trashy sitcom ABC is currently cranking out boggles the mind. Don't waste your time, energy, money, or worst of all the risk of damaging your faith in the future of American musical theater by seeing this show. See ANYTHING else. Might I recommend the Tony winning original musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE? You'll really have lots of fun at this show. It is laugh out loud funny with plenty of heart.
oh the negative comments are so predictable(cough theatre snobs)
The show is a lot of fun it does what it says on the tin.
Im from the UK and came to NY this year and went to see this and had a blast.
Broadway needs shows like this to keep the young theatre goers buying tickets. The score is fun and froffy and very catchy,as for the story welol its what you would expect, boy meets girl, boy looses girl boy gets girl back(like so many classic musicals) it just does it with its tongue firmly in its cheek.
Go see it,have a fun night and let your hair down
London embraces fun musicals along side the likes of sunday in the park with george, cabaret etc etc, because it knows to cater for all type's.
Its based on a film what wass'nt exactly an oscar winning film ,so you know what to expect.
yeah because not wanting to sit though dumb lyrics, a weak score and an almost nonexistant book makes one a theatre snob. I didn't even pay for my own ticket to see The Wedding Singer and i wanted to leave at intermission.
Liverpool, your ridiculous! And that's only the beginning of it:
This show was a blast from start to finish. I sat in my seat, and for the first time in a long time, I smiled throughout a whole show. I was tapping my feet, and that is not like me at all. The score is terrific, as I am sitting at my desk listening to it now....and the performers were fantastic. My personal highlight was Finley's "LET ME COME HOME." In the pasy 8 months, I have driven up from York, PA which takes about 3 1/2 hours to see this show 5 times. Its worth every penny! But if you expect to be moved and touched, well you need to ask LIVERPOOL what stuffy show they suggest....this show is pure fun!
I have the Wedding Singer CD, and I find it better to see it performed live rather than just listen to it play in my car. Part of the fun of the show is the energy of the cast, and you don't get that from listening to the CD.
I happen to enjoy plenty of shows that are fun. Bat Boy is one of my favorite musicals. No high message there. But it has a great score, interesting lyrics and a compelling book. A musical being "fun" (AKA FLUFF) is no excuse for it being a weak musical.
If liking shows like Sweeney Todd, Caroline, or Change and Ragtime makes me stuffy, then hell, that's exactly what I am. But i feel you'll find more people than not that would agree my taste in musicals in not one of a stuffy person but one of a person who knows and understands musical theatre.
Liverpool - you are a theatre SNOB!
The show was anything but boring, and judging from Liverpool's comments I am guessing LIVERPOOL is old, much older than the crowed TWS was going for.
I'm 21 darling. but good guess.
Yes!!!! It's an amazing show and lots of fun. Go and enjoy!
In short, YES!
yes.
such a great time in the theater.
you'll leave humming and dancing along to the music.
BAT BOY doesn't have a high message?? YOU'RE MAD! I guess "acceptance" isn't something to fight for...

It's a cute show but IMO the movie is better.

You said you listened to the cast recording and liked 3-4 songs...I say still go see it. I listened to some of the music beforehand and some of the songs I didn't like as much at first (most memorably, "A Note From Linda") I really "got" when I saw it staged.
I thought the whole "...smiley face" thing was dumb just listening to it, but when I saw Felicia Finley rocking out on stage and how it was done it made a lot more sense and I loved every minute of the show.
It's fun, it's got a great cast, it'll make you nostalgic for the 80s and this is your last chance to see it. Go for it.

Because one use of the "f" word is enough to make it relatable to SOUTH PARK? Give me a break.
It's a blast of a show, go see it, if only for the immensely talented cast.
