While I'm not clairvoyant, I think Andy needs to wait for material that is worthy of his talents. Alas, Pretty Woman isn't it.
I do like Andy Karl.. He is still waiting for the right vehicle. On the 20th Century could/should have happenned for him. He was great in Rocky but the material was substandard.
It needs to be the right mix of wonderful material and perfect performance.
That being said.. .anything can happen. I mean Elizabeth Taylor won an Oscar for Butterfield 8 and if you have ever seen that movie, her acting is downright embarrassing.

Winning a Tony is about so much more than talent; there's timing and the competition, too. I hope Andy beats those odds someday soon."
Wayman, should Karl have won the Tony for 20th Century? Quite probably. But to say that he should have won it for "Groundhog Day" is to say that Ben Platt should NOT have won it that year for DEH, which I find stunning, especially from a professional theater writer. I thought that Karl was excellent in "Groundhog Day", don't get me wrong. But Platt's performance was extraordinary, a performance that I and many others not only continue to remember but continue to discuss. It was a once in a decade performance, if not a once in a generation performance. (Yes, it goes without saying that all of the above is my opinion, but I'll acknowledge that anyway so that no one has to remind me,)

The all of a sudden we throw into the mix Patrick Page (another long overdue vet) and Stephen Bogardus (taking over the role Ciaran Hinds was nominated for an Olivier for) respectively."
Hadestown is unlikely to transfer this season at this point (though I'm still hoping) and they'd be stupid to petition Patrick into leading. It's not a big enough role for leading but he'd be a shoe-in for featured.
