Way, way back when I was doing community theater, I had a circle of friends who were involved in the various groups here on Long Island.
One New Year's Eve I hosted a party for these friends. That particular year I had just finished a production of FIDDLER, in which I played Mendel, the rabbi's son. All of my friends had just finished their shows, too, and almost everyone had played a speaking role--except a gal named Linda. She had just done a production of PROMISES, PROMISES and her only moment to shine was a short dance solo in "Turkey Lurkey Time".
While all of us were sharing anecdotes about our various roles, all Linda could talk about was "Turkey Lurkey Time". In fact, her Christmas card that year was a picture of her dancing on a table in the number (she had very heavy thighs!). We got so tired of hearing her talk about "Turkey Lurkey" this and "Turkey Lurkey" that, that we forbade her to mention it for the rest of the night.
It didn't stop her.
To this day, I can't hear the song without thinking of Linda and her heavy thighs.
"Long live God!" (GODSPELL)
