It's a Foine Loife!
#0It's a Foine Loife!
Posted: 9/8/05 at 4:35pmHeard the flutist (sp?) flautist? playing It's a Fine Life from Oliver last weekend, and now I can't get it out of my head. Is it a good song, do you think? I find myself humming it all day long...

Posted: 9/8/05 at 4:40pmI only know it from the movie sountrack - but I like it.

I agree.

Posted: 9/8/05 at 4:48pmYou should listen to the Original Cast recording. Georgia sounds so boisterous on it!

"Georgia sounds so boisterous on it!"
And so heartbreaking in "As Long As He Needs Me." She had a great range of emotion.

This is one of my favourite songs in the score. I really like the arrangement for the Cameron Makintosh revival as well.

Posted: 9/8/05 at 4:54pmCome to think of it, wasn't Georgia in some mess of a show that Alan Jay Lerner was involved in? Can't remember the title...

Posted: 9/8/05 at 4:57pmI love both the movie and the OBC versions. I must admit that I was so impressed with Shani Wallis in the film growing up (she was called "the British Judy Garland" by many cabaret critics in her day)... I was very surprised to hear Georgia Brown after that. A completely different take on it. She now reminds me a bit of Cleo Lane, as far as voice type. A bit of a rasp, more throaty, but what depth! Georgia has grown on me over the years. I certainly like her as much as Shani now, if not more so. I was sorry both ladies didn't have more of a public career after Oliver! They both do such amazing jobs.

Posted: 9/8/05 at 7:04pm"Oliver" was probably one of the first musicals I really fell in love with, and yes, I always loved It's A Foine Loife as Redhotinny so aptly put it! Of course, now I'm going to be walking around singing it until something displaces it on the sound-loop in my head. Brava to Georgia and Shani for making it so memorable.

Posted: 9/9/05 at 5:28pmI loved the movie when I was younger. Of the two tavern songs Nancy sings, I like Oom Pah Pah better, this one was too mellow for me.
