Not much new news, really.
She's already done workshops for this show.
What we want to know is if she's cast for the Broadway production.
Although this is a good sign, it's nothing official.

Is it me or does she seem all wrong for the role? I don't know. The beauty about the Legally Blonde movies was that Reese played it ditzy and vain but that she still had a heart. Laura doesn't seem like that to me, I would be afraid that she would play it completely like she played her Glinda and Amber. I guess that would be okay, but you want to feel for her. I don't want to look at her onstage and be like this girls a ditz and not feel for her at all.

Posted: 5/3/06 at 6:19pmWell we don't really know how she's going to play it. It seems kinda rude to just think that she'll play it a certain way. Although her Amber could come off as bratty, but her Glinda should have had some sort of heart.

Her Glinda had plenty of heart. I am happy I had the chance to see her in it -AND meet her backstage.
I think its wrong to say she would not play it right, because her two highest profile parts have been semi-bratty characters. I think as an actress she can play a number if not all archetypes.
When I met her - she was nothing but warmth. I believe she can bring that quality to Elle Woods.

It sounds like Laura Bell Bundy is cast in the musical for good.

"There was even a Miss America glamming up the line of arrivals—1998’s Kate Shindle, who made her Broadway bow as a replacement in Jekyll & Hyde and is now on her way to originating a role on Broadway—the brunette nemesis Selma Blair played to Reese Witherspoon’s 2001 "Legally Blonde." Laura Bell Bundy from Hairspray has the title role in the new show, adapted by Heather Hach and musicalized by the husband and wife team of Laurence (Bat Boy) O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Posted: 5/8/06 at 5:02pmI'm not sure if I like all this making broadway shows from movies thing. But if it can be pulled off with The Wedding Singer, then this just may turn out good too.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 5:05pmGlad to hear Rachel Dratch is still in it. I hope she makes it to Broadway. I'm sure she's ready to leave SNL after so many years.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 5:07pmRachel won't play Paulette like Jennifer Coolidge did, but she has the dorky, shy, ugly duckling sort of style that I think could recreate the role to suit the stage version.

I also agree with whatyouown223 that while I do think Rachel Dratch is very talented and I love watching her on SNL, she is not right for the role and it just doesn't make sense to me.
