His first contract ends at the beginning of October. But that does not mean he isn't extending.
TampaNative just asked if he was extending, Yankeefan007, not when his contract ends.

You might want to check in at Corine's Corner for this info. It's "the pulse of the city" you know!

I went to Corine's Corner and saw no information about this.

I had seen that his contract ended on Oct. 6, then Oct. 1...I also read that Usher had extended his contract for an additional two weeks - if JLY extends his contract, shouldn't it be announced soon?

JLY's deal with ABC begins on October 1. I doubt he'll extend.

No, I don't think the ABC deal was for a specific date. I think it's to find a pilot for next season. That will take some time...I think.
Well, if JLY isn't extending, wouldn't they have annouced who is replacing him by now?

I suppose something will appear within the next few days...maybe???

The ABC deal doesn't guarantee him anything. It just means ABC can put him on an already-running show (ala Sara Ramirez on Grey's Anatomy) or put up a show around him. But finding a show to put him on takes time, and so does building a show around him - not to mention if they do the latter, it may not even get picked up.

I'm really surprised a replacement hasn't been announced yet.

Maybe because he isn't going anywhere. (Fingers crossed)

I am so anxious about this---because I have tickets for October 24th-----My brother is coming up from Florida just to see this show and I'd love for him to see JLY!

I am also anxious! I have tickets for the 28th. I was in NYC in the spring with my daughter and we saw Wicked with Eden Espinosa. We have a great performing arts center here, and I have been fortunate enought to see many national tours (including Wicked with Stephanie J. Block), but I have never seen an original cast on Broadway!!!

I wouldn't hold my breath for his extension. It seems incredibly unlikely at this point - and after doing the show for so long, his voice needs a break.
I wouldn't be surprised if he came back for a limited engagement in a year or so, but I think it's safe to assume that he will not be extending.
Doesn't it seem likely that his current standby or understudy will just take over?

I heard that JLY has been telling people that he IS INDEED working on extending. Really, I think he is staying. My friends spoke to him at the stage door a few days ago, and they said he sounded positive. (Just heard this) YAY

John told me recently he is working on extending.. I assume we will hear something very soon. My guess it will be a short extension if he does extend, maybe through Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the info. I am so looking forward to my trip and this would just be amazing if he was still in the play! On another note...any recommendations for a good Italian restaurant in mid-town?

I personally talked to John on Sunday. He told me that he is working on an extension, especially since now that he has all of his health issues straightened out. A month ago, he was not considering extending, but now he is in fine health. I would not expect an extremely long extension.

I personally like Daniela's Trattoria on 8th ave between 45-46th, I believe. You can get a prix fixe for $25----which includes soup, entree, coffee and dessert--the food is great---I go there alot after matinees or before evening performances.

Thanks for the recommendation! Are reservations required? I want this to be a really special night...

It's not the most romantic type of place, but the food is outstanding. We just walk right in---especially if it's right after a matinee---we don't waste time, that way we get a table right away. I don't know if they accept reservations--we've always just gone there and have always gotten seated. If you wait too long, then the tables fill up. (their chicken soup has spinach in it---delicious)

Please let it be a short extension. I saw the show. I thought, "How does he keep his voice in such good shape." Heck, I thought I wasn't gonna see him that day 'cause I'd heard about his medical issues.
