JLY contract extension

I can concur with PJ, I've also been told by people involved in the production that the four guys aren't going anywhere. I have no information on how long they are going to be there but they are all going to be there a bit longer atleast. Why John hasn't posted... *shrugs*... maybe he likes the anticipation and wants it to be a surprise!?!?

It wouldn't up to John to post it, wouldn't it be up to the producers to say something?

I agree---it isn't up to John. I don't understand why it's such a secret--one way or the other. If they extended the contract(s), I would think by announcing it, ticket sales would take a huge increase for the future for the people waiting to see this cast. (I know they don't NEED the ticket sales, but it IS all about money and that announcement would have an impact)

"It wouldn't up to John to post it, wouldn't it be up to the producers to say something?"

What do you mean? If it's John's Blog, then it most assuredly would be his responsibility. Since NONE of these actors is a high-profile (or even low-profile) star (i.e. celebrity) I can't imagine why the producers would be making some grand announcement. I would imagine that if John were leaving, his replacement would have been announced by now. Most people who plan on seeing the show have never even heard of these actors.

I think people do know the name of JLY----and why wouldn't the producers announce it? Obviously if ABC picked him up, they felt he had a name worth banking money on.

"I think people do know the name of JLY----and why wouldn't the producers announce it? Obviously if ABC picked him up, they felt he had a name worth banking money on."

Walk down the street, pick a random person, and ask them who John Lloyd Young is. ABC was chasing after a POTENTIALLY bankable ACTOR. They didn't sign him for his name recognition. Kristen Chenoweth is (arguably) more talented and more famous than he is, yet I doubt you'd find anyone outside those who follow Broadway who know who she is. And the fact ABC signed JLY means nothing. Hollywood swarmed down on the original cast of RENT after it premiered, and only Taye Diggs is close to be being a household name (I said close). Whether or not JLY stays with Jersey Boys will have absolutely no effect on the box office of Jersey Boys, Tony or no Tony.

OK----I agree--- I'm from the New York area and most people on most streets in my area would know that name. But you're right---this area doesn't represent the entire country. My world (and friends) are very New York---Broadway involved. I forget that sometimes---
I thought (and still kind of think) that, having won a Tony, would ensure higher ticket sales for that show with that actor----
Jersey Boys is an amazing show and with the right singer/actor, it'll remain very popular---
(I selfishly would love to see JLY one more time)

I really don't think they need an announcement that JLY will stay for a while to sell more tickets. When I was picking up will call tickets a few weeks ago I asked a guy at the box office how ticket sales were going and he said they were basically sold out until February.

The show has no problem selling tickets, with or without John Lloyd.

I'm not familiar with negotiations, but I think they would come up towards the end of contracts (such as this weekend). According to an actor in the show, "I'm not sure if anyone is leaving as our contracts aren't up yet" (this was September 22nd). Some actors have negotiated, and some have apparently not.

When they announce it, they'll announce it. All I can say is not to worry re: JLY contract extension.

They will announce it, and when they do everyone will know because it will be all over the JB web sites and here on BWW.

Yeah I agree with you Jennifer.

I saw the show tonight. At the stage door, J. Robert and Christian both said that they have signed on for another year, Daniel said he was about to sign, and John said that he has been hearing things but no contract has been given to him yet and he wants to see the papers before he says anything. He is taking a 2 week vacation and his last show for now is Oct 1. If he extends, he will come back after that vacation.

Clearly on Oct. 2.

This is all really, really confusing.

But John is taking a vacation October 2nd - 16th. I would guess everything has to be made absolutely official before he'd be free to announce something.

Also, Fosse, if the producers wouldn't need to announce anyone because it wouldn't be a big star, then why do the producers for other shows, such as Wicked, do it? We got an announcement when every new person was joining. Kate Reinders isn't really a star, now is she?

When will this contract situation be most likely resolved? Everyone says something different, is there any concrete information regarding the actual extension?

Fosse-----thanx for the sarcasm, but it is NOT clearly starting the 2nd. I seem to recall somewhere else that his contract ended on the 6th or 8th--which may or may not be true. Also, just because his contract ends on that date doesn't necessarily mean he's taking his vacation starting the day after. I have tickets for a certain date and I was wondering which date the two-week vacation started to gauge whether or not he MIGHT be performing when I see it.

LuckyDav stated "He is taking a 2 week vacation and his last show for now is Oct 1. If he extends, he will come back after that vacation."

Well, the 1st is Sunday. He's obviously in the show right now, so it's clear (to those of us who have the ability to think and analyze) that if he plans on performing the first, and if he extends it won't be until after his vacation, that his vacation would start on the 2nd.

Yes, Fosse, I did indeed analyze that possibility also----however, I was posing the question in the EVENT that Mr. Young was not adhering to a rigid time frame.---but thank you for your deep insightfulness.

When I saw JLY at the Flea Market he said that he would be back mid-late October after a 2-week vacation. He said he was also being purposefully vague because his contract extension wasn't completely set yet.

Justafan2, he is indeed adhering to that time frame. His last performance with this contract is the 1st, and then his two week vacation starts. Updated On: 9/29/06 at 08:00 PM

I think JLY's fans who got tickets for the first week in October may be pissed because for the longest time, he said on his website that his contract ended on October 6th.

I have a ticket for tomorrow and am not pissed... it will easily be sold!
