Well that was awful.
That song irritates the living JRB outa me.
Thanks for the website though.

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.

Wow, what a (non) multi culti group. Brady Bunch 2008?
Was one of those kids "Cubby Bernstein"!?
The guitar riff was nice, though.

Well, the show is set in Indiana, and one of the plot points is that the lead character is the only Jewish kid in school, so no wonder the cast isn't particualrly "diverse".

oh yeah, i forgot us jews are always the outsiders! How original, how boring, how intentional. (i shouldn't diss the thing before i've seen it --okay, i'll see it, and then review!)

Well, Did I just tell you guys its like HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL? I have seen it at Goodspeed during its Pre-Broadway try-out. What do you guys EXPECT? Actually some of the songs are okay. Its JRB!
Its a cute show! All the characters are kids meaning 13-15 yrs old. Well... I am 35 yrs old.. basically it could be my son or daughter, if I had kids~that's why I call it them kids! No ADULT Characters. It looks like they will same the SAME CAST!

Well...if you saw this promo video and didn't like it...don't see the show. The sound, the tone, the look...is exactly what it was at Goodspeed on stage.
Like jaystarr said, it's like HSM...but with lyrics like "I wanna get drunk" it doesn't quite feel marketed to the 13-year-olds like HSM is. I'm not quite sure what audience they're going for, to be honest. It's cute, but there's nothing in the show that you'd write home about or call "stand out."

Little tidbit of info: Henry Hodges (Chitty, Mary Poppins, Beauty/Beast, Macbeth) is part of the yet-unannounced 13 Broadway cast.

I agree. The plot is very simple..its about "fitting in" ~the common problem of 13 yrs old kids. So dont expect anything like PARADE.
I think its CUTE bec. its just bunch of talented kids-singing, acting and playing instruments..yup! you heard it. The band is made up of kids. cute story and funny book!
The set looks like this...
Basically its HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL with depth and great songs! the lyrics is something a 13 yrs old would say! nothing more, nothing less! and be nice to those kids!
That's what's ALL ABOUT!

I love JRB, but I don't like what I've heard of this show, minus "What It Means to be a Friend."
I think that "13" is a really annoying song, personally. The music video was cheesy as well.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I agree! 13 is the weakest song. Some of the other songs are really GREAT!

hm not so much for me. I mean, seeing other people's views... I'll wait to hear another song but that is definitely not something I am interested in as of now.

13 will be like TOS~either you LOVE it or HATE it, there wont be a middle ground!
Remember those kids are NOT like us ~meaning 18, 23, 28, 35, 40, 46, 50 yrs old or more...they are 13 yrs old! I dont mean to say...we oughta cut them some slack! they are also not 25 yrs old or (my age) 35 yrs old playing 13 yrs old roles! lol
I SERIOUSLY think they need to do some recast from the Goodspeed's kids. Some of them are still not that "professional" for me, unless they matured into their roles this summer, they come across as high school production talent~not Broadway quality (only three kids are Broadway quality for me)
I hope them ALL the best, but when I see the show this Sept at Jacobs Theater. I will not be as "nice" as when I saw it at Goodspeed and I WANT to see some improvements!

actually i think the majority of them are about 15-16.. about my age. they ARE good, but no offence.. i've seen better singers in high school productions (don't kill me)
i think the most memorable song is 'what it means to be a friend'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRZLQ0-QDzk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CyEUlFhlmg
since they're gonna be on broadway, i think they need to step it up a notch.
IMO i think they need to recast patrice.

There are a few around 15 and 16, but the majority are definitely been 13 and having recently turned 15, I think.

No offense intended, but they could have at least gotten some better singers. Don't get me wrong, some were good, but others? Eh. And besides one or two of them, it appears that they have NO stage presence whatsoever. Seems very amateur. But it seems like a great idea and cannot wait for it.
I just hope they recast some of it.

I'm not crazy about the title song either but "What It Means to Be a Friend" is a beautiful song, and "Being a Geek," a track that I believe was cut on the road to Broadway is surprisingly poignant (there's a link on JRB's site). I don't know if the subject matter is going to be my cup of tea, especially because I don't really have any desire to revisit when I was 13), but I am still excited to see the final product.

This song as it comes across in the video is how the music video of The Bitch of Living would look if Spring Awakening was made into a Disney Channel Original Movie of the Week.

"What It Means to Be a Friend" makes me wonder if JRB was ever a thirteen-year-old girl, because it's just spot on and reminds me very much of when I was in middle school (ten years ago, woo).
Even so, I'm glad that they chucked out most of the score after the LA tryout; except for a few songs, it wasn't very strong (sad to see that "Getting Over It" got axed, though, because that was one of the songs I really liked. I haven't heard the Goodspeed score, though, so for all I know, the show is better off now with what replaced it.).
