Jackie Hoffman's Ad-Libs

I just saw Garden State and nearly peed my pants laughing at Jackie Hoffman singing "Three Times a Lady" at her sister's funeral, and it made me remember how hysterical she was in Hairspray.
So I was curious as to what her famous "Ad-lib" has been at performances you guys have been to. The time I saw it, she noticed a bunch of kids in the row and said "What? Was Lion King sold out?"
There has prob been a post about this before, my bad, get over it lol.

Posted: 9/8/04 at 12:14amI wasn't there, but I heard that during convention week's Wednesday matinee, as she got onto the stage from the orchestra, she said, "Let me through! I'm not a protestor, I'm not a Republican. I'm IN THE SHOW!"

Posted: 9/8/04 at 12:44amI remember someone else mentioning that one time the whole front row was empty and Jackie said something like, "What, are they all at the show with the green lady? That's boring!" I don't have the exact words, so maybe someone who saw that.

After all the great ones I've heard, I'm so upset Jackie didn't do some hilarious comment at my performance! It was back in January, and it was cold, and there were elderly ladies. So, she wa sjust like, oh, how lovely...some matinee ladies. Thanks for braving the cold. Almost a let down, but I love JAckie anyways!

Maybe I am the only one bothered by that kind of Schtick.

THOSE adlibs are strictly bruce V.
the last time I saw it, there was a rainstorm and a few seats were empty, so Jackie chimed in "look at this. The biggest hit show on Broadway and we have empty seats in the front row. What's the matter with people, Lon? Are they afraid of a little rain? bunch of pussies!"

As I mentioned in my Hairspray review yesterday. During Friday evenings performance Jackie came across a male couple and exclaimed (more or less), "Oh my, look at what we have hear a male couple. That's a sure sign that the Republicans have left town." The audience laughed and applauded.
Jackie is the best!!!

I actually liked Bruce's adlibs when "Hairspray" came to Denver. My (and the rest of the audience's) personal favorite was when he remarked, "Careful with the dress; I borrowed it from Marilyn Musgrave." For those of you who don't know, Marilyn Musgrave is a Colorado politician who is very opposed to gay marriage. The house went nuts!

At the Wednesday matinee on July 7th, Jackie Hoffman came through the front aisle and nobody was sitting there. She said, and I quote, "Ahh! Look at this, we're the best show on Broadway- the whole row is empty, here. Where is everybody? Seein' that chick with the green face over at Wicked? It's boring!".
I will never forget what she said after listening to all the kids in my acting camp singing songs from Wicked the ENTIRE bus ride in. Personally, I think the show is overrated and putting the kids and my opinion together I think I was the loudest of everybody cheering and clapping in the whole house.
I've seen the show 9 times but thats the best thing she's said. <3 Jackie Hoffman! -Penny
"You like football, Ed?" "Yeah..." "Good. Me too." -Chad & 'Ed', All Shook Up

Posted: 9/8/04 at 4:46pmI saw it on a Wendsday Mat. back in July 2003 and as she was walking through no one noticed her and she said "It's ok, this is only a Wendsday Matinee, no need to clap or anything." She got a standing ovation.

This definately was already a thread or maybe my post got deleted:
The first two times I saw it I got Liz Larsen who didn't really ad-lib.
The last time I saw it it was Kathy Brier's/Harvey Fierstein's last day. So Jackie comes out and goes "Exciting night isn't it?? You know who's in that giant can? Mathew Broderick and Nathan Lane!" I thought it was funny.

I heard 2 Jackie ad-libs, once when I saw it live in previews, once on someone's pirated video. Live, she said:
"Oh how fun, how LOVELY! It's a wonderful show, isn't it??" Then, 1 second later, to some lady she stepped on: "Oh, honey, I LOVE your FROCK! You look JUST LIKE Ethel Kennedy!" She then asked the woman's husband to give her a leg-up onto the stage. So, he cupped his hands together, gave her a boost and she climbed/rolled onto the stage, ala Carol Burnett.
the second time it was:
"Could 'ya MOVE, please?! Move. Help me out here. It's a matinee....NOBODY CARES."
Both were done with her hilarious wit and both times they had to stop the show for a literally a minute or 2 house erupted into huge laughter and applause for her.
Jackie, honey - you are my GURU! I KNEW she special from the moment I first saw her in the film KISSING JESSICA STEIN a few years ago.
