Has anybody heard why Jasmine Guy is no longer with "The Violet Hour?" I heard that she was replaced by her understudy DURING the first preview performance.

This one might be too hot for even this board to handle. Her slurred words and confusion at where she was during her time on stage might of had something to do with it.

I saw "The Violet Hour" October 19 in previews. Jasmine did the entire show and I thought she was good in the role.

I saw THE VIOLET HOUR last night and I think that its possible that Jasmine Guy realized that she was in a train wreck and knew to GET OUT NOW!

There's widespread speculation that she was on dope. But couldn't she have been ill? The cryptic messages from MTC suggest she went into the production with "problems."

Anyone here remember when Debbie Reynolds was in WOMAN OF THE YEAR? One night, she got something called "trans-global amnesia..." and started going up in act one, slurring, forgetting every lyric. Couldn't finish, was lead from the stage disoriented. Eerily similar. The understudy -- who had never gone on for Bacall or Raquel -- finished the show. Deb went back, but the show closed in two weeks. This strange behavior at least reminded me of that. At the time Debbie had a lotta 'splainin to do, and it all sounded bogus. But she was taken to the ER.

How can you be on dope and sign on to do a broadway show? Granted it's a limited run. Jasmine is also in a show on cable
"Dead Like Me" on which she looks pretty focused. Anyway, she was good when I saw "The Violet Hour." Get well Jasmine.

I had heard that Ms. Guy is on anti-depressants and that she may have had a drink or two before the show which reacted badly with what she was on.

Not sure it it's the truth...but it was a pretty reliable source.

it was also confusing when the spin from MTC said her earlier reluctance to join the show was based on "family concerns"...unless ongoing family stress had led to her self-medicating. As i posted in another thread about this topic, Guy was certainly discipined enough to play Velma on the road for quite some time, and very well. As to MTC using her or her choosing to sign for the show, as described, the character seems to fit her to a "T". And it was the Tony-winning playwright's next project. And most people love working at MTC. Perhaps we should just ascribe it to the twists of fate. i've always liked her, found her talented, etcetera. MTC rep is good as is the playwright's. Let's hope the added publicity puts all involved in the public eye so that future projects come their way.

Like in the film Truth or Dare where Madonna's make-up artist has a blast one night and wakes up bleeding from the behind. And of course Madge giggles like a school girl.
