Jason Robert Brown and 13! Another success!

I think judging a show based on a rough cut of the music is a little immature. Maybe people should actually see the show before they make assumptions, its so naive to me that people would do that.
"What it means to be a friend" blew me away in the show. Sarah knocks in out of the park with an amazingly powerful delivery, and I'll admit that it got me teary eyed. Because, we all know what it is like to be betrayed and hurt like that, it hits close to home.
And "being a geek" is not meant to be an AMAZING JRB song. Its coming from a awkward 13 year old boy who has no idea who he is, or what he really wants. And his Rabi isn't helping either.
The songs work perfect in the show. Maybe you should see it before you judge. (Same with the people on Legally Blonde.)
It's the old school saying "Don't Judge a book by its cover"

It was a great show.

Speaking of immature...
Maybe if you go back and read my original post where I put the pre-requisite that all of my judgements were based on the medley I heard and that given the circumstances of the show, you may understand better.
Part of having mature discussion is reading things fully, so watch what insults you hurl around here without being fully informed and don't pull up your sword and shield to protect the show when I was making an observation on the medley alone, and stated that in my OP.

Hey, let's nobody attack each other. If people don't like it they don't and if they do they do. This isn't a 13 love thread (although from my and iammyownmusical, you wouldn't know it), so opinions are certainly allowed.
I'm really actually getting worried that everyone's going to hate this show.

Well considering the tickets sales are REALLY going well, I don't think that we have to worry. JRB is an aquired taste, and it always takes a little bit of time for shows to catch on. Plus, we saw the FIRST show, and there isn't another performance till the 27th...so we just have to give people time to actually go see it!
I know I will be seeing it a few times
And Logan, don't take things so personally. I never said I was aiming my comment towards you.

How do you know ticket sales are going well? I was worried that the theater wasn't full for the first preview because I thought it would have gotten all the JRB fans in the area out...
And thanks for the positivity, EnchantedHunter, it was really necessary.

Don't patronize me.
I was the first person to say something negative in the thread and the first to say I hadn't seen the show but was making my opinion known.

Posted: 12/26/06 at 2:07amBecause I have a friend in the show- Ryan (well more of an aquaitance, but still.) We were talking, and he told me that they are selling 90% of the house for each performance...which is REALLY good.

Oh Logan, no one was patronizing you. Jump out of your little bubble world for a moment and realize that.
Anyways....Marshmallow- will I see you on January 7?

really 2:30. I didn't know that. I assumed it was at 8. They usually don't have opening performances be a matinee.
I'll have to check that out.

Before you guys pessimistically kill the future prospects for this show...please remember who's producing it- Michael Ritchie. Michael Ritchie who's the head of Center Theatre Group, is one of the savviest theatrical producers around. If the reviews are indeed very favorable, this show WILL make it to Broadway or at least have a long life in regional/touring.

JRB just posted a link to a Theatermania article about the show:
http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/9685
"The kids are the whole show," says Brown. "There are no adults to take it over from them, like Dorothy Loudon in Annie. They have to do it all, and it's so exciting to watch them own the stage." Was it hard for Brown to put himself in the mindset of a kid while writing the score? "There were times when it was alarmingly easy to find that place, to remember what it was like to be that young and vulnerable. Other times, it was more difficult; my ideas were right, but I was expressing them like a 36-year-old. So I had to tear all of that away and find out how a kid would say the same things."
