I'm actually pretty upset about this. I bought tickets for a Sunday matinee in March 2016. Obviously I knew vacations and sickness were possible, but to read that Javier will be on the date I'm supposed to go made my stomach drop. I saw In the Heights and Lin was out the day I went. I loved his understudy, but, it was really sad to see the show without the Tony Winning writer. Now to see this new show, without him? Ugh. I will be one of the people trying to exchange my tickets...

Kimbo, producers DON'T have a moral obligation to offer refunds. You keep talking about producers "doing the right thing". The right thing doesn't mean giving into every entitled brat like you who believes everyone deserves a Lin-Manuel Miranda Hamilton performance. The right thing is you being a grown up, putting on your big boy pants and moving past the disappointment to either see the show with Javier Muñoz, or selling your tickets to buy new ones to a performance where Lin is scheduled.

Nowhere anywhere on your ticket does it say you bought tickets to see Lin-Manuel Miranda personally. If you can't get over that, I pity the poor Ticketmaster employee who has to put up with your delusions long enough to say "No".

Rest assured that your threats to commit fraud have been forwarded to the production.

Orange, can you explain what the fraud he alluded to is? I thought I knew everything (Javier Munoz Will Be Alternate in HAMILTON on Broadway and also j/k) and I am not getting the scam.

Then go to the web site and buy tickets.  There's plenty still available.

Whoa whoa whoa Orange Kittles and Hogan's Heros NO one here even alluded to let alone mentioned FRAUD.  Let's seriously chill the f••• out.  All I said was that those of us with resources have our ways around this kind of thing, i.e. certain people have certain resources to know certain people.  I did use the word 'underhanded' and I admit to that.  But I didn't say I (or anyone) would be commiting any illegal wrongdoing.  I think everyone who's seen most of my thousands of posts here in the last 10 years will attest to the fact that I'm a veteran theatergoer for more than 50 years who's by and large an enthusiast and the first person to call people out on reprehensible behavior.  (See my most recent exchange calling out the people who were recklessly speculating about Roger Rees' illness AND insisting they had a right to viciously criticize his health-affected performance at the same time.)

If the majority people on here (although as I said, I'm clearly not alone) truly think that in this particular case I'm in the wrong, then as I've always said everyone has a right to their opinion.  But let's not get carried away and accusing people of crimes and promising to send a random chat board thread to the authorities just because people have strong thoughts on this subject and potential ideas for how to handle it.  Deep breaths, people, mmkay?  Mmkay.

Anyway as I said I'll be back in the states next week and will address this with the powers that be at that time.  If I have a positive outcome I'll report back.  In the meantime I'll probably stay off this thread in case someone calls Interpol to extradite me from my Mediterranean retreat.  Wowza.

If you look at Hogan Hero's past comments on Hamilton threads, you will find that he is always enabling the show. It's never the show's fault, it's always everyone else's fault, according to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he is some type of shill.

It's not difficult to type Hamilton into the search function, dear. We get information that way, if you were not aware.

I am torn. I was very excited to get excellent seats for a Sunday mat in Jan to give as xmas gifts. I will be seeing it in Nov on a Tuesday night but will be going in Jan with my family. I don't mind because I saw Lin at the Public and will hopefully see him in Nov. I am just bummed that my family might not get to see Lin. I am torn about what to do.

I cant really get this good seats at the price I paid. Also, who is to say that Lin isn't sick or on vacation for the show you change to.

I think I am going to keep the tickets since I feel the show is the star even if it would be nice to see Lin.

I just don't understand why people are trying to cause a witch hunt for the people who want to get different tickets. It's not your money, it's not your prerogative. I'm an adult and I will spend my money that way I see fit. Most of you have  more than one chance to see this show, but some of us who are coming overseas to see this production would like to see it with the man who created it. My niece is a huge fan of LMM and she had her hopes set on seeing him live. We both did. How dare us...

With that being said, I can't say I give much of a damn what people (who can likely see this show 3 times if they want) say about how I spend my money.

I don't see any anger about how one chooses to spend money.  But i do see 3 suggestions of low-key ways to achieve what you say you want (e.g. to return a ticket already purchased for a full reimbursement or exchange) by either (1) selling to willing buyers on this thread, (2) selling to willing buyers on stubhub or (3) by asking ticketmaster nicely to assist in getting an exchange for you by contacting the producers on your behalf to make the request.

Given that three options have been presented already that are all non-confrontational, there doesn't seem to be any benefit of getting angry about a problem that can readily be solved for you.  Others are making the point that not everyone necessarily minds the substitution, or maybe isn't happy about it but would still rather see the show with Javier than get their money back.  For those having a different preference, 3 solutions have been suggested here - why not try one of them in order to get what you want?

Kimbo, to be clear, I did not accuse you of fraud, and I did not suggest I was going to report anything to anyone. I asked (and you never responded) what you meant by "a way for resourceful people to get that refund AND stick it to the producers at the same time by making sure the seats aren't paid for and can't be resold." I then asked the same question of the person who described it as a "fraud." I'd still like to know because, based on my 20+ years of experience, I have no idea what you are talking about. If you get a refund, why can't the seats be resold? That's all I want to know.

Bonnie, yes I have been vocal in saying that the show is the best in most of our adult lifetimes. But I am not "enabling" anything: the show speaks for itself. And I think my track record of calling things as I see them on here is beyond dispute and that suggesting I am a shill is pretty lame. I would have (and have) said the same thing about people in relation to other shows when I think (or know) they are either wrong or engaged in some self-entitlement fandango. And if you paid attention, you'd know I am no less inclined to blame a producer when they are at fault.

I purchased tickets for Hamilton on June 25th for the Saturday matinee on September 5th (great seats in the orchestra). I was disappointed, though, when I read yesterday that Lin would not be performing. So today I crossed my fingers and went to the Richard Rodgers box office and politely asked if it was possible to exchange the tickets for a date when Lin would be performing. The woman behind the box office window was very kind and understanding, but when she asked her manager if I could exchange the tickets for a future date, he adamantly said no. His rude response to me was to sell them on StubHub. As I was leaving, the woman in the box office whispered to me that she was very sorry. Oh, well...from what I've read here, Javier Munoz won't disappoint, but I still wish I could see Lin-Manuel Miranda's performance in the show.

come on people, seriously, its a just under 3 hour (at least it was when I saw it)  history lesson that is rapped to you. There is some great stuff in it, but I much preferred ITH. I was a little bored after the novelty of the show wore off. But I also don't get the hype behind Fun Home either. It's good but not great and also would much rather see Javier than LMM any day. LMM was struggling a little vocally the night I saw it (again it was winter and he might have had a cold). But I saw LMM in tick, tick BOOM and same thing, he was struggling vocally. Suck it up...either sell your tickets on Stub Hub or go see the show with IMHO the better actor/singer.

I am glad they posted the schedule. Now I know what days to go for the lottery, because LMM won't be in.

I don't understand why people can't have a little room to express their disappointment.  Some people are acting like saying you're not pleased about this development is some horrible breach of established theater etiquette.

I think about the disappointed people every time somebody here posts that they've seen HOT SHOW X five times thanks to rush and lotto and how psyched they are to see the understudy on the 6th visit (THAT'S entitlement) even though fellow ticket buyers might be disappointed.

There are no guarantees in life, life isn't fair, people make mistakes, fathers, mothers, but let people express their feelings without belittling them for it.

Be disappointed, I am not saying they should not be. But, some have said they are willing to lie and screw over the producers by exchanging tickets and then no one can use them. Come on.

Simple fact of the matter is NO ONE'S name is over the title. The Theater, Box Office, The Producers, Ticket Master do not owe you anything. You took your chances when you bought your tickets. Suck it up. If you are not happy, Sell them on Stub Hub and make a nice profit, and buy tickets for another night.

I was at HOT SHOW X a few years ago for probably my 5th or 6th time and there was an understudy because the lead got sick during the cast recording. I was disappointed at first, then I realized that the understudy had never had a complete run through of the show. It was fun to watch for missed cues and her take on that track.

How utterly DELIGHTFUL for you!  It's just darling when chef at the Country Club throws in a different kind of cheese on the salad just to see if Chad and I are paying attention!!!  Just the little things you can only notice if you've a member, you know how it is.
