Glowing reports from my wife, who saw today's matinee.

I was curious to find out if he was going to use an accent, but she said he played it straight up--- and was EXCELLENT !!

Sutton out today as was Beth--

Angela Pupello played Janet- Wife said she was ok-

Stacia Fernandez as the Chaperone-- said she was very good.

Picked up the vinyl- didnt realize how nice it is, and didnt know they were limited and numbered edition of 1,000.

Nice keepsake !!

Why would he use an accent? What kind of accent?

Have you seen the show? I was curious to see whether or not he would try and sound like Bob Martin at all.

Yes I have seen the show. It just never occurred to me that Bob Martin was using an accent.

Bob wasnt "using" an accent--- He has one. He doesnt sound British to you at all?

No, I can't say that he does. He's chosen odd pronunciations of a couple of words - Broadway and chaperone are 2 that spring to mind (accents on the final syllable) but I don't think he sounds British.

He's Candadian so odd pronunciation of words may be because of that. I have Candadian friends who, though don't have accents, have little oddities in the way they pronounce certain words.

I'm really quite happy to hear that your wife thought he was good. I love the show to death, and I'm entirely glad it hasn't gone down hill without him.

Slightly annoying that Sutton and Beth were out re: Jay Douglas As 'Man In Chair' --- Still happy she liked the show!

SondheimGeek: Is it slightly pathetic that you guys get to be Jedi bitches, and I'm Bitchy the Hutt?
LizzieCurry: No, you're more memorable

Glad to hear that Bob's understudy is good. I've heard that Beth's is excellent as well, but it must be hard to replace Sutton and live up to expectations.

Saw the evening performance today (mar. 14) and sutton was in but beth was still out. her understudy was great through. not as drowsy, but she put more character into the part.

Jay, i was a bit worried about. But he really pulled through after the first number.

and I can happily report that, besides one small section in the Mezz, the entire theatre was full! it was great!

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

Colin Mocherie sounds similar...he's Canadian too.

Personally, I'd think he'd be incredible as the Man in the Chair.

Yeah, Millie -- I'm hoping the only reason he's not taking over as Man In The Chair is that his schedule wouldn't allow it. He seems like such a perfect fit for the role.

Its also common amongst true old fasioned theatre types to accent the 'way' in BroadWAY. Why that is, i have no idea. But you can hear it in The Producers, especially at the end, when Nathan Lane shouts out "Next stop, BroadWAY!" So it may very well be a character choice, which I would assume it was.

I believe there have only been three men to play "Man in Chair". I'm and proud (and a little embarrassed as I feel like a drowsy junkie)to say that I've seen all three of them. If there has been another "Man" whom I have overlooked, please don't throw stones at me. Bob Martin is clearly "the man" and he will always be the best in my eyes. Patrick Wetzel is definitely my second choice for this role so far. He broke my heart at the end of the play. Jay Douglas also did a good job but seemed a little young and not quite right for the role. I also saw Mr. Douglas play Aldolpho and thought he was solid in that role as well.
