I just wanted to know some other people's thoughts on the version that was taped. I thought David H. (dont know how to spell his last name) tried very hard and put a good effort in but it just came off too harsh and not very well done. I loved Andrea Rivette as Emma but I thought Coleen Sexton stole the show. What a voice and great acting and stage presence. Anyone wanna chime in?!
What else has Coleen done or whats coming up for her. Im hooked now!

Coleen was wonderful. She was in The Prince And The Pauper off broadway.
hasselhoff should be shot for that performance.

I happenstanced on this show when it was on Showtime or something. I thought it was a disaster...David "Snapper" Hasselhoff or no. My god, people bought tix to see this?!?!?!
In a word: fertilizer for the masses.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 5:26pmI was hooked the first time I saw her, too. I still am. She definitely did steal the show. She's unbelievable. I don't thinks he did much more on Broadway than that, though. Some other posters and I think she should take over for Idina Menzel when she leaves Wicked- she could do it. She is absolutely amazing. I thought David was okay. At certain points, his voice annoyed me- he was off with the music and there was way too much vibratto. But I'll give him credit- it is an extremely hard role, and he did a decent job. Andrea Rivette was Emma was another standout as well. What a voice! The two women singing "In His Eyes" was the highlight for me.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 5:51pmI also saw it on HBO Specials (along with Smokey Joe's Cafe, which is awesome) and I thought it was just OK. Like everyone else said, David was alful and didn't have the best voice. That was definently a casting problem! I think he should stick with lifeguarding. The two leading ladies were awesome, though.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 6:30pmI would rather have it than not have it.Hasselhoff was adequate. TITM was shortened at the end as he could not hold a note long. I thought his "Confrontation" was good although a few lighting cues in the number were missed. His take on the role was much different than Cuccioli. Cuccioli played it as evil whereas Hasselhoff looked like he came out of "One Flew Over The Cuckcoos Nest" & played it like a character in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. The real crime was that "Bring on the Men" was cut originally from the show

Posted: 8/27/03 at 7:03pmI think David Hasselhoff was awful, just plain awful. I couldn't help but laughing at nearly everythign he said. But enough with criticizing people. I guess I'll give him this: he did put effort into it. Andrea Rivette was very impressive, I thought she had a real nice voice. But Coleen Sexton ABSOLUTELY stole the show here. She has a gorgeous voice that is filled with emotion every word she sings. I think she has wonderful stage presence and incredible acting skills. She realy did steal the show. I know she's really young, so I hope to see her in some Broadway show or another in the near future. Last I heard she was part of a short-lived Off-Broadway show called Heat Lightning, and after that she had some kind of two-day thing going on in West Virginia. I hope to see her in somethign soon.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 8:07pmI'd have to agree that I was NOT impressed with Hasselhoff. It was easy to see that he enjoyed himself, but it wasn't so enjoyable for me! I liked Coleen, but I really wish they would have made a DVD with the OBC-Linda Eder, Robert Cuccioli, and Christiane Noll.

Colleen was NEVER in The Prince and The Pauper.
David H in J&H was awful! Although I do have to admit I did get quite a laugh out of watching him once the horror of it wore off.

Don't get me started with Jekyll, guys! OK..twist my arm.
I've seen every cast since it opened, partly from hosting groups to shows, partly from knowing half the cast for various reasons.
It was truly not a great overall production, but OH! the talent it produced! The principals ranged from outstanding (Cucciolo, Evan, Chuck Wagner -tour- All GREAT J/H's, Noll, Rivette, Eder) to very good (Joe Mahowald, Luba Mason, Coleen Sexton) to surprisingly intersting (Sebastian Bach) to pathetic(Jack Wagner & the Beach boy)...in my personal opinion.
Noll & Eder's "In His Eyes" got standing O's regularly. It remain one of my all-time favorite duets.
It was a "fun, cultish" show with an amazingly nice group of regular down to earth actors.

I think the only good thing about David doing J&H is that we may get some "beach bums" thinking it might be cool to see it and then be inspired to see another show.

Ok - so, I really am a Mommy and my 3 year old was obsessed with the J & H video for about a month. I would fast forward right through the David Hasselhoff stuff and get right to the women - the only reason for watching the show.
Not many three year olds can sing "Someone Like You"!!!

Posted: 8/28/03 at 6:27amI loved the original show, but David Hasselhoff totally ruined it. He sings like a sheep, and I believe he thought he was starring in "Stevie Nicks-the musical"......Th-i-i-i-s i-i-is the mo-m-e-e-e-e-ent!

Overall, I liked the DVD. But I must agree with everyone else on this board - David Hasselhoff was awful. When he sang, he either sounded like a goat, or a sheep. For me too, Coleen stole the show....she was so beautiful - and a wonderful actress with an amazing belt. I saw her live 3 times, and she really blew the roof off the theatre everytime she sang "Someone Like You" or "A New Life". I wish she would do more on Broadway. She is incredibly talented. Initially, I didn't like Andrea Rivette, but she grew on me, and I now think she is wonderful. I definitely liked her take on the role of Emma, it was slightly different that previous Emma's. Talk about a Thoroughly Modern Emma. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Cheers,
The Balladeer

Andrea is a theater pal of mine, in fact she and her J/H "tour" co-star Chuck Wagner are doing a benefit concert tomorrow at UWF (Univ. West.Fla.) She did indeed bring a new twist of personality to the role of Emma. More of a personality to the role. The director wanted to keep Emma as prim and propper as he liked, much to the disappointment of some of those who played the role. Although, I think Christiane Noll's( original Emma) voice is perfection to this day. She remains an AMAZING talent, imho.
I am grateful to David Hasselhoff for one thing. He funded the project to film J&H. Of course he would star in it! He brought the bat and the ball for this game, so he got to use the players he wanted. Besides, it would have been a slap in the face of the rest of that current cast to say "You're out"...bring back so and so for the film. I too wish the OBC (Cucciolo, Eder & Noll) were filmed, but Eder was already committed at the time and I can't say what was the status of the others.
Again, this is just some fact and personal opinion. Anytime a any Broadway show is out there for the public is a plus for theater.
Regarding using the OBC, I beleive Linda was already commited at the time of the filming.

You guys answered my question as to why it was filmed using him. I loved the play and saw it three times in NY with Rob Evan and thought he did a wonderful job with it. Just never could understand why they filmed it with the lead they did. Now I know.
Thanx

If my understanding is correct, David H. is very big in Germany. I've only got a vague memory of him starting to sing when he was doing "Knight Rider". It must not have made that big of an impression because that's about all I remember--I don't know if I liked him or not as a singer.
As for K.I.T.T.--he can park himself in my driveway anytime--I don't care if he's a little rusty now. I would love to have a car not K.A.R.R. (Triva Question anyone remember what that stood for?) I could tell, "Go park yourself, come back and pick me up at five!"
