Yes I do realize that both were written by Frank Wildhorn who is amazing, but recently I've been listening more to the Hyde sdtk and 2 songs from Dracula and I am noting the similarity in the musical scores...anyone else agree? It's interesting.

I have noticed some similarities also, but there is also a bit of scarlet pimpernel in it too...although Dracula was not even close to the greatness of SP and J&H, he really dropped the ball on this one, considering it had so much potential.
Speaking of Dracula, isn't the concept recording supposed to be released around this month? PatiB, are you out there?.......... Updated On: 4/13/05 at 06:52 PM
Hmm...I am on a mailing list for it but had not heard this...

No comparison- Dracula sucks- pun intended.
YEs they are similar. Welcome to the convo - I (well, we) have been saying this forever.
I can't wait for Dracula

I love Jekyll and Hyde. Haven't heard much of Dracula yet so I guess I can't compare much. From what I have heard they do sound slightly similar...
The only similarity I hear is "Nosferatu" having the same basic melody as "His Work and Nothing More". This has been brought up countless times. yes, it is very close to the same melody, but still not quite. in addition to this "Life After Life" has a musical section from "The Glory" in the Civil War which is the exact same music. other than that any other similarities seem, at least to me, to be in one's imagination...
and I have to say every time it is brought up that what DRACULA was on Broadway and what is was in La Jolla were two completely different shows and the version in La Jolla did rank right alongside Jekyll, Pimpy and the Civil War. Hopefully, the national tour, which still seems to be in the works will more reflect the La Jolla version.
Personally, I think they both suck.
The concept recording cannot be released this Friday. All new Cd's or "recordings" come out on Tuesdays.
They're still planning a national tour? I would love that, but I do agree that they should lean more towards the material from the La Jolla production, as it was a much better final product than the Broadway! I would LOVE to see a national tour happen. Dracula definitely had possibilities, and not all of the material was crap. I just think that Don Black and Christopher Hampton should take the blame for the pathetic book and lyrics, but I do realize that ultimately the blame should go to Des MacAnuff as the director, but I still think the blame should lie will the ones who wrote, or should I say re-wrote, the material for the Broadway production. The La Jolla version is VERY different from the Broadway production. However the Broadway Dracula does have potential!
See Ya!

oops, I must have misread something earlier. From what I've heard though, it's already packed and ready to go, but they have to sort out some issues first....
They are similar musicals, in the sense that they are both based on Victorian Gothic novels that have beastly, murderous, but sexy villians at their centers...but no, the scores are very different, mostly in the fact that "Jekyll and Hyde" has pretty good music, while the entire score to "Dracula" sucks except for that one good song, "Life After Life," which ends the first act.
No.
The more you listen to it, the better it is.
But the point is moot.

I don't think they're similar AT ALL. Dracula is much weaker but at the same time MUCH, MUCH more gothic.
i love them both but i have noticed similarities. but still...how much can a composer do? all that music is coming from one mind.
similarities i've noticed...the very beginning of before the summer ends, sounds like the beginning of good and evil. also, parts of "the modern world" sound like parts of J & H.

You also got to remember that parts of J and H wre written with Linda Eder in mind, particularly most of the Lucy and Emma songs, especially lucy and plus Eder can make any song sound like gold. In my opinino I think he should bring Camille Claudel to Bway so we can see Linda back on stage.

I don't think the concept recording is bad at all. And I hear no similarities to his other work.
