haterobics, how was I supposed to know that this had been already mentioned in the other thread. That thread is clearly called "Jackie Burns-If/Then. So sorry.
Jenn was indeed amazing. She seemed so at ease. He a few line misshaps, but nothing major. Her chemistry with James and Anthony was spot on. Everyone seemed thrilled for her, genuinely thrilled. What a great actress and singer.
That's why I linked to the other thread... I'm not sure why you're getting so defensive. I sometimes forget that everything on here without a smiley face is a potential insult. <-- covered my bases this time.
She was obviously good in the role. The sad part is once Idina leaves, so does the show. People will not see it simply because she is not in it no matter how good the show & replacement are.

I headed straight to that thread when I saw that Jenn would be on. I've never even seen (or heard most of) If/Then. But I was curious about the posts about her.

Idina and Jenn are good friends and I wouldn't be surprised if Idina, who is a mensch, let her do a show since Jackie is on vacation and it may be her only opportunity. It is what a good friend would do. Jenn has an incredible voice and i am sure she was sensational. She deserves to be a lead in another musical. .
I'd be shocked and appalled if Idina were to pull a stunt so unprofessional as that.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
That is retarded and bad for business, so they didn't do that. Menzel has had a cold since last week, shortly after returning from the UK, and Burns was out for a family emergency of some sort. (Twitter)
That's amazing! Was Jenn listed as a cover for this role or anything? I assumed that since she has a supporting role, she would never be going on for Idina. Wow!

This inane reasoning comes up every single time a second understudy goes on in a role. It's more of some fan fantasy. Come on. These are professionals.
I wouldn't call it inane, or be shocked or appalled. I can think of 5 times that, that has happened off the top of my head. Didn't Orfeh publicly admit to it? It happens.

This is actually common practice in professional theatre, if both parties and the producers are in agreement. Sometimes the understudy going on will wave their understudy payment for the opportunity (if they want family or agents to see them perform)
