How is she? I haven't seen the show yet and I really don't want to until it opens (if it ever does), but I think Damiano is a really promising talent (she arguably deserved to win the Tony for N2N) and I've been really interested on how she is in Spiderman.
Any thoughts?

I think the most appropriate phrase here would be "diamond in the rough."
She's a very talented actress, doing her very best with some very bad material.

Posted: 2/20/11 at 11:53pmAs said above me, she has absolutely nothing to work with. I think she's very talented, but this show really does not give her (or anyone else, for that matter) any opportunity to show it.

She adds nothing to the show, whatsoever.
That, however, is not her fault. MJ, like nearly every other character, is severely underwritten. There is nothing TO play.
She sounded good, though.

Posted: 2/21/11 at 9:10amShe's good with what she has to do. Which is next to nothing. I say REVIVE Spring Awakening with Jenn Damiano as Wendla and Johnny B Wright as Melchior. Put both of them in a GOOD show.

She's terrific!
And when I read her bio, and seen she was in Spring Awakening, I kind of remember that whole cast was terrific.

Posted: 2/21/11 at 5:25pmMJ is really horribly underwritten...she has very little to work with and she really doesn't leave much of an impression, which isn't her fault. She sounds lovely singing the score though.

Having been so impressed by her vocals in Next to Normal, I quickly headed to Spider-Man to see what she would add to this show. I found what the others have said to be true - I can't imagine EVER making some of those lines real for anybody anywhere...it's commendable. She's doing the best she can with what she has, I think.
It's a shame she can't continue her learning process with some better material, though. She's said in some interviews that she's never formally studied acting and that has been evident at times in several performances. I think it would be hard to be a student of this craft, practicing on such materials...

Posted: 2/22/11 at 12:18pmMary Jane may be underwritten in the book but there's 40 years of stories across various media. Swiss Miss doesn't have a wikileaks page like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jane_Watson The first comic book I remember reading was Amazing Spiderman 365 and the one part that really shone was MJ looking back on her relationship with Spiderman. It's been almost 20 years but I still remember reading it, It was a recap but done so well that I remember it fondly, even wih all the crap published since. The death of Gwen Stacy collection also has some great MJ stuff but nowhere as succinct and grounded as what's in this short comic in 365.
