I love JLT, I'd definitely see her in anything.
^ Def. check out Urinetown. Or download her songs from it or something.
She uses her beautiful mezzo on "Follow Your Heart." Then on she uses this soulful alto sound on "I See a River."
She has quite a versatile voice.
I actually knew her from Footloose ages ago, I saw that show 7 times when it was on Broadway.
I knew her from Footloose too Liotte. I saw her in that a few times, then I saw her in Urinetown about 5 of the 8 times I saw it. I only saw her in Wicked once because, well, its Wicked and I only even went back to see it because I wanted to see her.
Jen is a lot more talented than was shown in Wicked. Ljay is right, she needs to be creating roles, not taking them over. She was good in Footloose but she was tremendous in Urinetown *then again, the whole OBC of Urinetown was pretty fantastic, that show is amazing* and she made Wicked tolerable.
I don't care what show it is, i'd go see her in anything.

Justice...if I may ask, why don't you like the Urinetown CD? Is it the show or the recording?
thanks
Zoneace...why hate on PJ? I don't understand. Where is the love?
I dont think JLT is nasily...she sounded completley different in footloose than she did in urinetown, both very good parts for her!

simple, i was commenting on the reaction to someone calling it a soundtrack, people need to get over the fact that some people call it that.
But it's NOT a soundtrack.

true its not, but some people do call it that. Its kind like how Spamalot wasn't the best musical of last tony season, yet it won the award. sort of the same thing. Its not the best musical but some people call it that.
But that's a title that is based off of opinion. It's not a matter of opinion whether a cast recording is called a soundtrack or not. Whatever. I don't want to deal with this. I shouldn't have said anything.
while some people rave about "urinetown," which to me seemed lacking in many ways, and insult "wicked" which may not be the greatest thing on earth, but since it's cool to dislike it, i suppose that's what people do and say...kind of like when "titanic" came out...huge money maker, number 1 at the box office for weeks, won tons of awards...but, it became cool to hate it because of it's "mainstream" appeal...despite all the awards and money, some people with no real knowledge of film making at all thought it was just the worse piece of **** ever...same thing with "wicked" i feel...but, i'll step down now

are you gonna deny that people make too big of a deal when someone calls it a sound track? cause if you are then you are blind or naive.
Ordinary- I saw Wicked on opening night before it was cool to love it OR hate it and at intermission I deemed it too long and had issues with it. My opinion of the show has nothing to do with it being "cool" to feel a certain way. As for Urinetown, I will defend that show to my dying day even if the entire world calls it crap.
Just to clarify - I am aware of the difference between a Soundtrack and cast recording...but, technically, if you look at it, all recordings are "soundtracks". Regardless, i'm not anal enough to care...therefore, i say soundtrack.
Simple,
Unfortunately, i never saw the show. But, i'm more than sure I would have liked it. I've only heard the "recording", and I'm not crazy about the music. I've heard that it's something one would have to see to appreciate.
I second that, Bythesword. Even though I've said this a hundred and one times, I will repeat myself again. I saw Wicked back in March of 2004 when it was still fairly new, and even then I thought that the show was long, loud and extremely fluffly. This opinion is in no way against the people who are in the show, or who like the show, b/c I will admit, there were times when I laughed. But overall, I thought that the book was tiresome and bland, the music and lyrics were boring and somewhat amateurish and the entirity of the piece seemed to take hours to finish. I understand why people out there like the show, and think it's wonderful, and I do not fault people for it, but I said going out of the Gershwin, that I would never again need to see that musical. Little did I know Jen would be stepping into the part in the future, b/c then I had to go see it agian. And guess what? I thought the exact same thing I thought before, and was even getting a little sick and bored with it in the second act.
On that note, I think that Urinetown is a fantastic piece of theatre. It cannont possibly be compared to something like Wicked. It was and is a completely original idea, with and idea and focus that had never been tried before in the world of musical theatre. Even though some of the idea were borrowed from other things, the creators were able to put their own artistic spin and alter sections to make it fit into the show beautifully. I think one of the major problems with a vast younger majority not liking Urinetown is that most of them don't have a real appreciate for theatre. (and I am not talking about Wickeds and Rents and Hairsprays) I mean real, classical, original musical theatre. Too many young people are interested in things with poppy, bubble gum sounding boys and screaming banshee women in the lead roles to care about something that has a little bit of a different sound. I think both shows are geared for two completely different audiences, and I don't think either audience is better or worse than the other one. I don't think it becomes cool to hate shows that are popular--if you look at this board, I think you'll see the that POVs are pretty split when it comes to this topic (my sig being an example)
However, why am I wasting bandwidth on a person who has a picture of himself in front of Brooklyn as an icon?

It was only a matter of time before I took over this thread...
Oh and Justice, the one woman show, or the equivelent: a show in which Jen was onstage for almost the play's entirity was Little Fish.
well i love her and would see anything...and i think her in DRS would be amazing...and for her to create another role would be absolutley wonderful too.
she's just such a great person and performer!
Oh I would see her in anything too, thats why I saw her in Wicked even though I don't like the show. I enjoy her performances.
I really couldn't agree more with what you said, LittleFish.
I saw Urinetown on tour and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Completely original, hilarious, bizarre, absurd...just brilliant. And I agree that the cast recording doesn't come close to capturing how incredible it is; you really do have to see the actual show to fully appreciate it.
Wicked has more commercial appeal than Urinetown. Everyone knows the Wizard of Oz; therefore more people will be inclined to want to see a musical about it. On the other hand, not a whole lot of people would run to see a show titled "Urinetown."
In my own PERSONAL OPINION, I think Urinetown is a better show than Wicked. That's just me. But as LittleFish said, they're very different shows; they appeal to different audiences. It really all depends on what you prefer, personally.
Oh yes. I almost forgot what this thread was originally about -- I love JLT too. =)
