She said from the get-go that she didn't want a long run. She has a young child that she wanted to be with. And she did stay with the show for ten months. Just a bit longer than Cheno.
Well, Andrew, she was in the show from July 18th (?) until April/May. Didn't she extend once as well? All in all, it was a nice healthy run, I would say. She was excellent in the role, at least in my humble opinion. Plus, I believe she had just given birth around the time she had taken over. Perhaps she was ready to return to mother hood after her time in Wicked?
Yeah, I agree that her run wasn't all that short. She started July 20, 2004 and left May 29, 2005- that's ten months. And yes, she did extend, she was supposed to leave about six weeks earlier. She was in Wicked (on Broadway) longer than Kristin though. And I'm sure she left, as everyone else said, so she could spend more time with her baby.
by broadway contract standards, it was cut short...USUALLY a performer signs for a year. i am not saying that the actual run was SHORT...10 months IS a long time...its just shorter than USUAL..i only heard amazing things about her and i was bummed that she left before i could see her! i LOVED megan hilty though! i am glad that she is ok (i thought maybe she got ill) and i hope she is enjoying motherhood!!!
I thought she was great though she's the only person I've seen in the role so I can't compare, but she was very funny and sweet and has a lovely voice. Hopefully when her baby is a little older we'll see her back on broadway!

her interpretation of the role was very different from Kristin's and Megan's, and I think it's partly because she looked so different from them. She's a wonderful person, and I look forward to seeing her in other productions!

I'd rather have her originate a role than return to Wicked.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

I thought Jennifer was an amazing Glinda. I also love Kristin and Megan, but she's my favorite.
As far as coming back to Wicked...I doubt it. I agree with dancingthrulife- I'd rather her originate something. I can't really see her going back to Wicked.
She brought something entrirely new to the table with that role. It was wonderful they didn't bring in a carbon copy Kristin right off the bat. I never knew she extended. Good thing she did or I wouldnt have caught her in time
I felt JLT was an absolute master of comic timing. She did look a bit too old for Glinda but she played the part exceptionally. It is pleasing to me to see that the first three Glindas so far have been quite well cast.
Although I never saw Jennifer Laura Thompson as Glinda, I do like the fact that someone completely fresh and new was brought into the production. I think it was good to see a brand new face and interpretation on the character. I wish they'd do this more often instead of just promoting understudies and standbys. Bringing someone totally new tends to add a spark of energy that wasn't there before. Does this make any sense? Hahaha...
That completely makes sense, Joshua, and I totally agree.
As far as Jennifer Laura as Glinda, she was wonderful. Leaps and bounds better than Chenoweth, if you ask me. She brought a lot more depth and a much more human, relatable quality to the role, and let the absurdity of the character work as comedy for her. Just how I think an actor should approach Glinda.
Jennifer is a good friend of my aunt's (well, my mother's best friend), and I had the opportunity to go backstage to Wicked through Jennifer (as well as sit in her house seats!). Anyways, I know I overheard them talking (while I was admiring the dressing room) about Tommy (her baby) and how, relevant to this same topic, she was going to focus on raising her family. :) Great for her, I think!
Did you see how many parentheses I used in that damn paragraph!?
I agree with you all, Jennifer Laura Thompson was an amazing Glinda. She is by far my favorite person in the role.
And yes, you guys are right. She left Wicked with no plans for anything else because all she wanted to do was just be a mother and raise her child. Major props to her for that but I cant wait for her to get back to Broadway!
I saw her in Urinetown, and her performance will forever stay with me. A perfect example of how to make a role your own. And she just seems so down-to-earth.
