Jersey Boys Gouge Chicago

I saw this on the Broadway in Chicago website listing ticket prices for Jersey Boys:

"Ticket prices are $30.00 to $95.00 and may be ordered through Ticketmaster, or see Ticket Information for more options."

I'm sorry, but this is absloutley ridiculous. It's bad enough to have to pay over $115.00 on Broadway. They haven't as of yet raised prices on Wicked, but Jersey Boys doesn't open until October, so I'll bet Wicked will raise prices then too.

Quite honestly, those prices are not that bad...I attend plays at the Performing Arts Center here in Tampa, and the average ticket price for orchestra is $85...I don't find it that bad.

I saw Jersey Boys in Oct. in NYC and paid $111 for my tickets...I am going again in July and paid $135. It is well worth the money.

Actually Fosse76, the top ticket price is not $95 as listed on the Broadway In Chicago Website. The top ticket price is actually closer to $150!
I went on Ticketmaster to take advantage of the AmEx offer and quickly found out they are charging that much for most orchestra seats.

That's actually cheaper than San Francisco.

That's just grotesque. But I think they are merely gougin AMEX holders. I remember when Wicked went on sale the top price listed was $150, but when tickets finally went on sale to the general public they were back at their normal rate. And I'm sorry, but although I can afford to see a show at that price, it doesn't mean that the show should charge that much. There is absolutely NO legitimate reason for a show to charge that much money.

Doesn't seem too bad to me, either. In LA, Jersey Boys tix will be priced up to $100.00 at the Ahmanson.

Edit: $150??? OK, that's insane. But at least there are cheaper seats available.

very rarely would i pay over $100 for a touring show. it'd have to be pre-Broadway or something friggin AMAZING for me to spend that kind of money. and Jersey Boys was good but it's not $150 good.

My point is, compared to the other shows in Chicago, this is higher (and in less demand, I doubt it will be the next "Wicked") for no apparent purpose. My other point is, there is absolutely no reason for shows to charge this much money.

re: Jersey Boys charge what they can get

They charge that much money because they can get it. Why shouldn't they? You want to get outraged over high prices, try prescription drugs.

It's too expensive? Stay home! And if enough people stay home, the prices will come down. I am not wealthy so if I see a show it's through Hot Tix or I buy the cheap seats.

I wonder what you do for a living Fosse. Ever turn down a raise cause it was too much?
