Hey,
When I was in NYC last time, watching the Broadway Preview channel they had a clip for Jersey Boys. It appeared to just be four kings standing in a row singing songs.
Can someone tell me why the show is doing so good? What's the draw?
Thanks,
RY
um, I haven't seen the show but I don't think it's really wise to judge a show based on a minue or half minute preview on some advertising television station in a hotel room.

Q, he wasn't necessarily judging, but inquiring about the show.
Thank you.
I really wasn't passing a judgement, more of just wondering what the deal is because the channel didn't show much.
Some of those previews can be pretty good, some not so good..

sorry 'bout that!
If you want to seen some vidoes from the show and from interviwes that they did go to johnlloydyoung.com and go down to media. I have not seen the show, but from what i have seen from the vidoes, it is a great show. And the cast is really nice, I
e-mail a few of them.
Well, the thing is, it depends on what your definition of what makes a show "good" is. That is why I am not always a huge fan of critics of any type. People have differing tastes. And so called Jukebox musicals are judged so harshly now anyway. I guess what I mean to say is, if you're a very old-fashioned musical theater-goer type (e.g. West Side Story immediately springs to mind), you may not be that thrilled by it. But if you like more modern musicals (and certainly in this case if you like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons songs), you might enjoy this one.
Me personally--I liked it alot.
Quick question ot: Jerseyboyslover--by your name and your icon, I can tell you really like the show, but you said you haven't seen it. Please I don't mean this in a bitchy way! Just wondering how you got into it then.

I really didn't think I was going to love it going in, never liking any previous jukebox musicals, but it really is that good and you shouold def go see it.
I don't consider this show a typical "jukebox musical". The book is biographical, and the songs are part of the real story. I guess I see jukebox musicals more as "Mamma Mia", where they made up a story as a reason to play the songs. Does that make sense?

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. It's the best jukebox musical I've ever seen. But that isn't saying much. I wasn't all that impressed with the show. I liked it, but I didn't love it.

I loved it, and yes, YankeeGal, that makes total sense to me. =)
As for why I loved it - I loved the story of these "Jersey Boys, " these wanna-be hoods, and how they clawed their way to stardom. (I know, only three of the guys were "hoods," but you get what I mean.) It's a great "Behind the Music" kind of story.
Well I grow up listening to frankie Valli. I frist saw the jersey boys when they where at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, wish i could have been there in person. one day i was looking up little women because we were going to see it when it come to georgia, so anyway I was on broadway.com and me and my mom were watching all the videos of the show's on broadway and I came to jersey boys and remember that i saw them at the parade. Then I just started looking at the cast web site's and watching the videos and I fell in love. then about two weeks later I started e-mail john. now i am e-mail john, christian and johns girl frined. When I e-mailed john the frist time I just ask if I could have an autographed picture. I did not think that he would reply to the message, but the next day i went to my mail and about died. He e-mailed me and said that he had sent me a picture. I sent a pictures to all the guys to autograph and they did.
oh yeah and i even got christian and john to sign my web site.
Yes, erikaamato--I love the story too. The fact that it's true makes it even more amazing.
RY - Did you try this? It might help answer your question.

It's really unlike the typical "jukebox" musical in many ways. I've heard people say that it's more like a play with Four Seasons music and I can see their point. The book is VERY strong, in my opinion, and the story is just as compelling as the golden oldies the guys are, as you put it, 'standing in a line and singing'. Each of the members of the band has his own story to tell, from his own point of view, which makes for great storytelling.
