Okay, here's my stupid question of the day: Every ticket I've ever bought says 'No Refunds, No Exchanges'. So how can there be a cancellation line? Does the ticket holder actually return the ticket to the box office and then the box office resells the ticket to someone in the cancellation line? Or does the ticket holder just approach the first person in the cancellation line in order to sell his/her tickets?

Posted: 8/4/06 at 2:18pmThe bulk of the cancellation seats are actually unused house seats. Every show has a reserve of house seats made available to the production to give away or sell to VIPs (i.e., celebrities, politicians, etc.) as well as cast and crew. They hold onto them as long as possible before curtain and then release the remaining seats to the box office. For more popular shows, often times regular theatregoers will call and say they can't attend and the box office will sell those seats. I'm almost certain there is someone more knowledgeable about this than I, but that's the explanation I'm most familiar with.

They all say "No Refunds/No Exchanges." While, for the most part, they will not refund your ticket, if you are unable to attend a performance they always absolutely work with you.
I have exchanged my tickets many times if I can't attend a performance, and although some BO attendants aren't happy about doing the work, it's always done. I did it for FROZEN, SPAMALOT, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, LESTAT, RENT, THE WOMAN IN WHITE, TABOO, etc. They'll always work with you.
