The L.A. Times says the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles announced on Wednesday that "Jersey Boys" will be there starting in May 2007, taking the place of the temporarily on-hold Berry Gordy musical, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." I can hardly wait. I know that the Ahmanson's best seats are taken up by subscription, so I am going to look into seeing how much this will now be. They have a good lineup this year. "Curtains" is on now, then "Doubt" with Cherry Jones, "Light in the Piazza," "Edward Scisscorhands" (a new ballet by Matthew Bourne), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" with Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin, "12 Angry Men" with Richard Thomas and George Wendt (I can't quite see this casting), and then "Jersey Boys"

Posted: 8/30/06 at 10:38amThe website for the Ahmanson says it is to run from May through July. This could probably do great as a sitdown. I wonder if any of the original cast will be in it?

No sitdowns!
Wicked will be at the Pantages, so the Ahmanson will have to host all the tours. At the most, it can extend to like September.

I saw it in La Jolla and then on B'way back in 10/05. From what I recall, the changes were very few and I certainly can't remember them now. I doubt you would notice any changes if it has been that long since you've seen it (if you do notice changes, you certainly have a better memory than I...).

The Playbill.com article makes it seem like it is a sitdown (it refers to it as the LA production, with a separate tour opening in San Francisco). Does anyone know for sure? I'm guessing that playbill is confused, and that it is really just the opening of the tour (or pre-opening, like Spelling Bee in Atlanta).
But I loved this part of the article best:
"Center Theatre Group’s Ahmanson Theatre has replaced the world premiere of the new Motown musical Ain’t No Mountain High Enough with a new run of the popular, nationwide hit Jersey Boys."
Shouldn't it actually play across the nation first before being considered a nationwide hit? I mean, New York doesn't really take up the whole nation!
