the score was not written and the CD not produced by anyone in the "theatre community".
Like it or not, Curtainpulldowner, after over a year of having the hottest ticket on Broadway, the Tonys etc, Bob Gaudio and Jersey Boys *has become* part of the theatre community.

Agreed mpw607.
As for JERSEY BOYS not being part of the theatre community, I do challange that. It began at La Jolla Playhouse, a well-respected regional theatre. It was directed by Tony award winning Des McAnuff. And the best part of the production is that the creative team cast ACTORS rather than pop stars, which was evident in the reviews and the numerous awards and nominations JERSEY BOYS received for its actors. It is nothing like BEATLEMANIA...
Last year, when I went to see all of the new musicals, I expected JERSEY BOYS to be "just another jukebox" musical...I was shocked at how much I liked it. I said LIKED it. As I was impressed with how well it worked, and told the story. What impresses me most is the way the performers are more than just cute kids who can sing. They are GREAT actors. It was the acting itself that moved my feelings of LIKE to LOVE about Jersey Boys. The Cast Recording of JERSEY BOYS even captures a lot of that. It's not just Hit after Hit, you also get a lot of the story and the theatricality. It's a great cast recording and it completely deserved to win. I would have been shocked if anything else had won, to be honest.
Also, while the Grammy may not mean anything to the Broadway fans, it means a lot to Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and all of their fans. It is the award for the music industry, and this is a musical ABOUT the music industry.

I didn't say the show was not part of the community, it certainly is.
But that recording is just a bunch of old Four Seasons songs and I personally don't consider that a Broadway score.
That's just my opinion.
And i am not slamming jukebox shows in general, they have been around forever, I just think this one is overated.

My point, in case you missed it, is that the recording is NOT just a bunch of old Four Seasons songs.
It is the way they are strung together. The Cast Recording includes a lot of dialogue that is in the show and really "tells the story" of Jersey Boys from beginning to end.
Have you actually listened to it? Because it is more than "just a bunch of old Four Seasons songs". In fact, a few are not Four Seasons songs, and just songs they sang in the beginning of their career...Lot's of narration from the show, and it's a great reminder of the show itself. FAR BETTER than most "jukeboxes"...

I made a comment about the lack of due recognition in another thread that I started before this one took off.

While it's good that Bob Gaudio has at last won one Grammy, I'm amazed there has been no Lifetime Achievement Grammy. This year they've given one to Booker T & the MGs amongst others. The 4 Seasons are far more deserving but ignored year after year.
