Posted: 11/22/06 at 9:10pmI'm not big on the idea of Speilberg directing JERSEY BOYS. I'd much prefer Scorcese. If ever he was going to direct a muscial, Scorcese and JERSEY BOYS would be a perfect fit.

Posted: 11/22/06 at 11:46pmAs others have said, I think Streisand (as much as I love her) is too old for Rose. I reallu can't picture Streep in the role either, but I would prefer her over Streisand. All in all, I hope they don't make another movie out of Gypsy. Two very mediocre versions are enough for me.

Posted: 11/22/06 at 11:52pmScorsese has been occasionally linked to a film version of "Sunset Boulevard", which I actually think someone like Spielburg would be more apt to direct. Spielburg is excellent at creating rich environments, which something like Sunset, a classic hollywood piece requires. Scorsese's forte has always been his ability to show a brutal reality without any candy coating, which is, to me, what Jersey Boys' primary appeal is. If only these guys could flip their supposed projects!

I'd love to direct Sunset Blvd. but I am an unknown 17 year-old senior in high school.
I'd love to direct Miss Saigon too. I have great visions for both.
I'd prefer a real musical over a jukebox musical be adapted to the screen, even if Jersey Boys did win Best Musical. But I am not speaking specifically, just in the genre. I have not seen Jersey Boys and therefore cannot determine wether it would be an exception or not.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 12:01pmI was talking to a friend of mine and he was telling me that the person who played Hope in our college's production of Urinetown works with one of Bob Gaudio's children and apparently Bob doesn't want Jersey Boys to be a movie cause he thinks it would be butchered on screen.

I personally would love to see Jersey Boys as a movie. I hope it does happen and if it does also, that the Broadway Cast now of Daniel, Christian, Bobby, and John are all in it. They are fabolous on stage and I bet they would be in a movie of Jersey Boys also. I really want to see how they would present a movie version of Jersey Boys, should be interesting.
I also agree with Worrell, it would be cool if they somehow put the original Four Seasons into it even though one of them is gone, putting the other 3 into it would be cool to see.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 10:28pmActually I concur about the lohan louise thing, and I could see hilary duff as june. Niether are great singers, but the role doesn't really require them to be. And I think that given thier rumored "catfight" thier appearances in the move would make for great publicity...aka ticket sales...It would bring in a young crowd.

They have to be thinking years down the line for a Jersey Boy Movie and the Braodway cast is way too unknown for the screen.
Heck, they didn't use Harvey for HAIRSPRAY they ain't using JLY as Frankie Vali and they would probably use the real 4 seasons vocals anyway and JLY singing ticks of the face on the big screen would chase me out of the Theatre.

I have to kinda disagree with you CurtainPullDowner cause alot times, movie producers will put unknowns in the movie cast and alot of times the film is well received. I, mean look at United 93, there was no known names in that and that received alot of great reviews. Hugh Jackman was a virtual unknown before X-men.
So, it could happen that JLY, Daniel, Christian, and Bobby would get into the movie, and another thing is that if they do a movie of Jersey Boys, I would hope that if they didn't put them in the film, that they wouldn't have to resort to have the 4 leads lip-synch to the original recordings. In terms of the singing the actors should sing the songs like Joaquin did in Walk The Line or Kevin Spacey did in Beyond The Sea.

Posted: 11/24/06 at 11:46amMy personal wish is that (and this will never happen) they would videotape the stage performance with this cast and release it in the future on DVD. They did it with a few of the Roundabout theater productions ("The Man Who Came to Dinner" for one---starring Nathan Lane)

That won't happen, it's too big a hit for that.
As far as the original cast question, look what happened when RENT used so many originals (the director was the real problem, but still)
And HAIRSPRAY is not using one original cast member so don't hold your breath for JERSEY BOYS Bway cast in a movie.

Posted: 11/24/06 at 1:25pmI can name a few movie unknowns that did movie musicals and they were pretty much B'way gold. I remember Ellen Greene doing the Little Shop movie and NOBODY knew who she was until that movie and then she did a couple of others and she became a movie actress. Gwen Verdon for Damn Yankees same thing with her. Barbra for Funny Girl same thing. Of course the cast of RENT had alot of the originals and The Producers had the 4 leading roles and it was better than RENT as some people say. So JERSEY BOYS might be a sucess on the silver screen. They just better not change the script or anything cause that's what happened to RENT and Phantom because there was so much change in those movies that it looked as if they were not adapted from stage to screen. That's what made those two films clunk. So.....we all don't know what to expect.

CurtainPullDowner
The role of Edna Turnblatt is a fictitious role that many actors can attempt. It is not a real-live person who is being portrayed.
Moreso, in most successful films about real-life singers, the actors generally are doing their own singing: Walk the Line, Ray, Coal Miner's Daughter. And in many musicals, often they do use unknowns for break-put performancers. Considering that the role of Frankie Valli comes with it's own set of criteria (Short, Italian, Falsetto), to find a NAME to fill this role, will be difficult. Moreso, if the producers and directors WANT an unknown, they will be doing exactly what the producers did for the Broadway Production: CASTING AN UNKNOWN...if the best choice is to use John Lloyd Young(and the other Broadway performers) they will. And if the film is great, he could become an even bigger star.

Actually JB Fan, Jamie Foxx lip-synched to the Ray Charles recordings in Ray cause I remember them saying that about him in comparison to Kevin Spacey in Beyond The Sea.
How about the put the 4 original leads in and in some of the more minor roles have cameos from more well known names. I also had this really stupid idea for the opening scene in a Jersey Boys movie, where it would start out with "Ces Soirees-La" in a French night club somewhere and during the song we see 3 figures standing in the back of the stage. They are Nick Devito, Tommy Devito, and Nick Massi. No one in the club sees them, we are the only ones who do, as the song comes to an end Nick, Tommy, and Nicky begin to move forward, the song comes to an end as the French rap group freezes, the vamp for Silhouettes starts as the three come into light, as we are taken back to the early 60s in a Jersey night club. The three stop as Tommy looks into camera and says "That's our song. Oh What A Night, Ces Soirees-La. French, number one in Paris, 2000, ten weeks. Not bad for a song from thirty years ago...."
It's a rough idea, but what do you think?

As Much as I LOVE Ellen Greene, that was a risk and she was the high point of the Movie, but her career did not exactly soar after that.
And Harvey Fiersteinn was a multiple TONY winner and a Movie actor and they still went with Travolta (I still don't get that)
I still think the JERSEY BOYS Movie is way down the line and they will go with different actors unless any of the original BOYS craeers take off.
Think Beyonce.

Posted: 11/25/06 at 11:20amOkay, so if they decide not to put JLY, Daniel, Christian, and Bobby in as The Four Seasons, and go with bigger names who do you think could be the film Four Seasons. For some odd reason, I see Joaquin Phoenix in the film somewhere, maybe as Tommy. I don't know to me, there is two possiblity's with the film cast, either the original 4 leads in the film or 4 bigger names in the film, but in all honesty I don't think this will get picked up anytime soon, but it would be a really nice surprise to go on any film or broadway site to see an article reading "Jersey Boys film has the go ahead" or "Jersey Boys coming to the big screen".
#44re: Jersey Boys: The Movie & The Remake of Gypsy
Posted: 11/25/06 at 12:25pmI don't think JERSEY BOYS will be a hit movie if it had someone else in it. I mean look at Phantom, it had NO originals. If it had at least the 4 leads, then it would be a hit movie. Nobody can do that speech JLY does at the end. He is the only one who can do it.

the only way i would see jersey boys as a movie is if it were with the original b'way cast. otherwise i'd boycott it and cry.
