In the script for Jerusalem it says there is music in certain areas. I was wondering if there is any way to hear these selections such as the beginning? And did they really work in the show? Thanks!

The play opens with the character of Phaedra singing the English hymn "And did those feet, in ancient time?" (text by William Blake), from which the play derives its name:

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England's green & pleasant Land

The music played during the rave scene is Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die."

The record that plays during Rooster's first monologue is "Somebody Done Changed The Lock on My Door" by Champion Jack Dupree.

I don't remember what song Phaedra sings in the beginning of Act 2, but I'm pretty sure it's not the Jerusalem hymn.

The song that plays during Rooster and Phaedra's dance is "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" by Sandy Denny.

Hope this helps.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Yes it does! So the only two songs sung by people in the cast is the two Phaedra songs? Thanks. I like to listen to the music as I read along with the script!

As far as I recall, yes. Phaedra's singing moments came at the beginnings of Acts 1 and 2, so they were both somewhat removed from the actual action of the play.

The script I have indicates that the song Phaedra sings at the top of Act II is "Werewolf" by Barry Dransfield.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
