It makes me very happy that she is getting work! But I must say, there was nothing special or outstanding about her in Drood or Into the Woods, that I noticed. Would anyone care to express why she is regarded as a star? just curious, not trying to bash her.

phan24, if you haven't seen this clip from ON A CLEAR DAY... maybe it will help you see how amazing she can be. I'll also post her performance of "Too Late Now" at last year's Drama Desk awards.

That video from 'On a Clear Day' is indeed amazing! I guess she just didn't have that big a role in Drood to shine as she did in On a Clear Day.

So glad you liked it. I've watched that one several times and she always amazes me. It's uncanny how DROOD and INTO THE WOODS are far better shows than ON A CLEAR DAY (especially the revival she was in) but the material is so well-suited to her strengths. There's a handful of Jessie performances on YouTube, plus some charming interviews.

I agree with the previously posted comments about On a Clear Day being a huge shining moment for her, but I would argue her performance as Cinderella was a standout in Into the Woods, and there is certainly a reason she wins more than anyone else in Drood! :)

I think this show will give her a great opportunity to show what she can do. And yes, I highly encourage a trip into the YouTube, she's got some great stuff up there.

Or you just don't get it. Clearly plenty of people do. She may have a great agent who got her the appointment, but it's her great talent that got her the job.

I so love her and i am so happy that she is getting the success she deserves. I love Nice Work the first two times i saw it and if i can make it to New York i will definitely go a third time!

Curious, who would play opposite (or by her side as it is) in side show? But the funny girl revival. she needs to be fanny. now.

Muscle23ftl, I don't mean to seem like I think it's invalid to disagree about her, but I don't really understand what you're talking about. I've seen almost all of her performances in New York and I've never once heard her scream-singing or over belting anything. I'm just curious which show you feel like this was happening in.

I saw her in On a Clear Day and in Drood, but I can barely recall her performance in Drood.
I hated her numbers in On a Clear Day, I am not into jazzy singers. I prefer a wonderful soprano like Kelli O'Hara. But you know, everyone has an opinion. That just happens to be mine.
I'm happy she is doing this, because I will probably skip re-visiting the show yet again, and that is a good thing!

Absolutely you're entitled to your opinion and I imagine if you're not into jazz, her songs in Clear Day definitely weren't your taste, it's not for everybody. I just disagree that she was screaming her way through the songs, I've always thought she had a lovely airy, clear quality about her voice.

To each their own, at least we can agree that Kelli O'Hara is a wonderful soprano. :)

It's funny how you always conveniently have the exact opposite opinion of the majority.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but I fid it curious that you always seem to magically lean in the other direction on most things. And rarely with a hardcore reason for having your opinions. We all have loves or hates that are on the fringe of popular opinion. Funny how you consistently do.

Either you're a pot stirrer, have mostly bad taste in musical theatre, or a combo platter of the two.
