Posted: 6/12/07 at 6:37amHey everyone. I am new here but already like this site when it comes to news about the theater world. I watched the Tony's myself and enjoyed it. I am posting though because I am curious to know if anyone knows of or remembers an actor named Glenn Carter from England who is best known for his appearance in the 2000 PBS production of Jesus Christ Superstar. He also did the role in New York as well as England between 2000 and 2002 approximately. I just recently returned from a trip to England where I saw him live in the Stephen Sondheim show Merrily We Roll Along and not only was the show fantastic and the rest of the cast great but Glenn was amazing. I am trying to hook up with other fans to get a discussion going about his work. He also appeared once in Boson in As You Like It perhaps in 2003.

Posted: 6/12/07 at 6:57amyou have a right to your opinion but this was the first show I ever saw him in. It is a difficult role to play and I thought he was Super. He brought a human quality to Jesus not shown in other productions and he has a wonderful voice besides being a great actor on stage. If you are not a fan please don't respond. I am looking for people who actually like him. I'm not trying to be rude but I am not looking for Judas betraying Jesus again.lol.

You said you were posting this message to see if anyone knows of him. I do, and he sucks. As for Ted Neeley, I've never seen the role done better. He is amazing.
songanddanceman2, who the heck are you? I have the hardest time understanding anything that you say in your posts, and it's hard to take what you say seriously.

Posted: 6/12/07 at 10:13amTotally generic tenor with not even the slightest hint of any acting ability. He was painful to watch. But if you like him, he'll be doing a concert in the USA, I'm sure you'll have no problem getting tickets, you'll be one of the three people there.

You might have more luck asking or searching on the West End board where there were a number of scary detailed threads recently...

To each his own Christ...I've seen a handfull of them.
Ted Neeley did a wonderful job in the film and still does the role great honor in the touring production, which I saw recently. His popularity is staggering and he is a truly nice gentleman.
Danny Zolli does an awesome rendition of Gethsamane and his Jesus AND Judas are tops. He was with the show for several years.
Sebastian Bach was pathetic. A rock version, bouncing off the walls, flinging his hair. He walked out mid-production in Philly, much to the relief of many.
Glenn Carter Christ was as boring as a milk bottle and weak as a drippy willow. FYI, Carter also answers to "another calling" in the Raeliaen Race Religion. Just google "Raeliaen UFO Religion Spokesperson".

Saw Eric Kunze as Christ a couple of years ago. Amazing - look for him on you tube. He has played Marius (Les Miz), Chris (Miss Saigon), and Joe (Damn Yakees) on Broadway, and he was fabulous with Gesthemane. I wish he would quit selling those damned spas in San Diego and find another role he coulld sin his teeth into.

Posted: 6/13/07 at 5:41pmI didn't like Glenn Carter as Jesus. His voice is VERY whiney. You want a GREAT Jesus . . . seek out the Australian version. It's the ONLY version where the Jesus and Judas match each other in their vocal power. It is AMAZING!!!

Hi Tinkerbell! I love Glenn Carter! I started posting on this site with a very similiar message and I got the same response. He's gorgeous and talented. The 2000 London Revival DVD is one of my favs...the whole cast was fantastic. I have no idea why the people on this board are so nasty towards him. PBENT will always bring up his personal life (which is irrelevant to his career). Do a search on the West End site and you'll get a ton of posts. He definitely has a big fan base in his home country.
His website is www.glenncarter.com That is a complete love fest. I don't post there, I'm too old for fan clubs!

Hey, Carter's involvment with Raelians as their "spokesperson" is a fact and hardly a personal matter. He has gone extremely public with this.
And you are right, Glenn's connections with aliens has little bearing on his role in JCS. People either enjoyed his portrayal as Jesus or they didn't. There's no reason to defend or crucify him. I personally didn't care for him as Christ...but he was not as horrible as Sebastian Bach, imo...which is just that;an opinion.

Well, and when one has played a religious figure and purports to be a religious figure (especially if it involves aliens, cloning and other such topics), it's just going to come up.
I didn't think Glenn Carter displayed fantastic acting in the JCS movie, but that has nothing to do with my opinion of the Raelians.
That's just a bonus.
