I've seen the movie "breakfest club" I thought it was kinda funny..hehe. I liked the movie .
tFan, you have just spoke the title of my favorite movie. Congrats. lol.
I love the 96 London...
Haven't heard the 1996 cast. Which one is this? How many casts were there? I didn't even know there was an Aussie cast. (What year?)
There are over 100 Superstar recordings...

The aussie recording is from 1992. It is like JCS on drugs. But, it is so cool. It has the best Judas ever.
There are at least 10 real recordings of SUPERSTAR.
Jon Stevens? He's a great Judas.
OH YEAH!!!! He is GREAT.........one of the best, if not THE best. His voice is amazing, and you can feel the pain and anger he has.
I think he's wonderful, but not quite as good as Zubin Varla on the 96. The 2001 Mexican Cast Judas is absolutely breathtaking as well - he's like a Spanish Adam Pascal.
I really like the 1996 Judas but his voice gets too whiny sometimes. Jon Stevens is just POWERFUL. But, great choice though
A lot of the Spanish Judas' are very powerful.
I don't think Zubin gets too whiny - I think his performance is perfect. He highly inspired my performance as Judas.
If you really like the 92 Aussie, I suggest you take a listen to the 95 New Zealand - same exact orchestrations, different group of rock singers. It's all available at the link I recently posted.
I like Steve Balsamo a lot, but Ted Neeley will always be the perfect Jesus to me. His performance is flawless in the role.
ok. Will listen then. Is there a link to listen to the Spanish guy's voice?
It's all at that website - you'll see. Click on the album cover, you can hear the whole album. It's a fantastic site.
oh, ok
I loved Zubin Varla as Judas. He was so intense on stage, almost scary at parts :) Love him!

Did he sound the same live as he does on the CD?
Original Broadway Cast. Ben Vereen's Judas is just perfection! I love his Heaven On Their Minds. Kills me.

*I saw the 1996 revival in London, with Steve Balsamo - the music was earsplitting in the theatre ( Lyceum, I think)
* I have the movie version with Ted Neely as well as the DVD with Glenn Carter
* I have several CD versions.
I think I like it a lot more now than when I first heard it a long time ago. Maybe because the DVD put a fresh face on this ALW-Rice classic? Or maybe it's more of a classic now rather than just a rock opera of the moment ?
My favourite version of GETHSEMANE -- is the version sang by Brit musical star Michael Ball! When ALW celebrated his many years in musical theatre at the Royal Albert Hall some years ago( thankfully, a DVD was produced of the event which spanned practically all his works), Michael was chosen to sing GETHSEMANE and he sang one of the most beautiful, emotional, and powerful renditions of this song.

I think Michael Ball gives a pretty good performance of GETHSEMANE, I just wish he hit the high G on 'Why Should I Die'. But he didn't. He's a wuss. He doesn't think of this song as a piece of great rock music - he just thinks of it as another Andrew Lloyd Webber song that'll he'll just add to his collection of songs to sing. I like Michael Ball, I like most of his GETHSEMANE, but that doesn't mean he should be singing it.
Eh, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...I'll probably apologize later...
My vote is split. The original Bway version is amazing. Ben Vereen...come on!
Also, the Aussie version is great. It has perhaps the best Jesus ever. His I only want to say (Geth) is easily the best I've ever heard. The rest of the show is on acid, but I think JCS is about that sort of thing anyway, so Amen to those of you who second my opinion on this.
JCS is no more through Judas's eyes than it is through Pilate's or Jesus's eyes -- many characters have strong perspectives on that show, hardly just Judas. The characters don't necessarily fall in line with Judas's perspective.
I don't like any of the Michael Ball type recordings -- the song's for a rock wailer, not a legit singer. I really don't like the 1996 arrangement in the slightest, don't like the quiet part during the big build and don't like the big money note at the end. The song works perfectly in its original incarnation, giving it money notes doesn't help.
I do not like Ben Vereen as Judas. He hits the high notes quickly but quickly lets off them. I'm wondering if he can't hold them very long. I want those high notes loud and long.
Seany, yes, he did sound pretty the same. Unfortunately, he was struggling a bit with the notes towards the end of his run and I know he started to miss a few shows. I wasn't surprised, considering how much screaming etc Zubin did on stage. But his big notes (such as SOUR at the end of Heaven on Their Minds) were always spot on when I saw him.
Zubin's real strength was his acting though, he was SO tortured. Steve Balsamo had the voice but his acting was very weak.
