Plus the tempos are racing on the OBC which probably didn't help him.

I love CATS. Personally, I think it's better than Evita. But then again I understand CATS...most people do not.

JohnPopa, Tim Rice said it was through the eyes of Judas (it is on the interview in the new JCS DVD). He like the narrator of the story. I mean, he is the one that asks the questions and tries to make the audience look at Jesus as he does (someone who is doing good things, but he isn't doing what he should be doing and he might get them killed for his actions). Like I said, my favorite is the 1996 cast is my FAV. but the Australian cast is just fun to listen to and sing with. It put a great spin on it.

Seany, hate is such a strong word! Why do you hate Jerome Pradon anyway?

Because he can't sing the role of Judas. He was absolutely terrible. He's a good actor, but had no business singing that role.

I haven't heard any recordings other than the one from 1970 with Murray Head, Ian Gillan, and Yvonne Elliman which I love. I did want to tell Type_A_Tiff that I saw Sebastian Bach on tour, and he was really bad. I was actully cringing in my chair, and spent all of intermission dreading Gethsemene. Ugh. I was very disappointed.

wickedfan, I have some friends at SDM and I heard a lot about that production. Who did you play? How were the leads?

I have the original vinyl with the exploding sun... and my friend said it was worth $100.00 or something like that. It's the only recording I've truly "HEARD!!" (yes, 'shamefully', to those collectors out there, I've 'played' it). Nothing else beats the original concept album, except (maybe) the movie, because it has all the songs ever written for J.C.S. Don't get the '96 cast album. They change all the good words and try and make them sophisticated and the talent stinks. Probably third on my list is the Australian CD. It has some diabolic arrangements. The worst, of all of them, is the CD for the video release (and, once again, the '96 cast)

I don't like Glenn Carter, but to me, jerome pradon is the best judas EVER.
I saw him live singing JCS at the concert of the thousand voices for tim rice, and I liked a lot.
In this concert he sung the song "Saul has slain his thousand" from alan menken's king david... simply incredible!!!!!

the australian recording to me is the best recording there is... its such a different take on the show, and there are finally some real rock singers tearing the show the way it was meant to be... I just absolutely LOVE the different feel this recording has... if you are going to own only oen JCS recording make it this!!! *wish they would come out with a full recording instead of just highlights of the concert over in Australia

I'm a big fan of the Carter/Pradon recording as well...I have the London Cast 20th Anniversary as well with Paul Nicholas, which i love nearly as much. That could be cuz I had a serious jones for Claire Moore for a while though. I also absolutely love Victor Spinetti.

Paul Nicholas is a very untalented man. Like Pradon, he has no business being in JCS.

Paul has hardly any range, all the songs are transposed down for him...I like Paul in Tommy...but he's just not what I'd expect from someone playing such a demanding tenor role as Jesus. I think he'd be better as Caiaphas, or maybe in a different musical altogether.
